I complained to Google Gemini about Google services and Android both incorrectly identifying / not respecting my localisation preferences and it told me to use Duck Duck Go and to wipe Android for GrapheneOS instead.

Which is not wrong (lol).

Impressed at the nighttime astronomical images you capture with a phone camera and no other equipment.

Context: I took this on the beach tonight with a Google Pixel 8 from 2023 (not a new or particularly fancy phone) and min/maxed the contrast and brightness using the built-in photo app so the edges are hard, but no image enhancements.

With respect to income and purchasing power the standard of living for middle class Americans is high, and wages for many jobs are higher than in Europe (especially in the commercial sector), but at a personal cost. The number of hours worked is higher, the number of holidays much lower and generally much less accommodating employment for sickness, pregnancy, childcare, etc - not dissimilar to being an independent contractor.

We have yet to catch on the UK and many of us still practice the art of sad desk sandwiches, during which you have to endure responding to at least one work related conversation that "cannot wait".

So, there was one of those threads on Reddit that seems to be a frequent cause of transatlantic confusion.

It was about the use of they/them/their for single person pronouns, which has been normal in written and spoken English for hundreds of years.

It's very much normal in the UK and I was taught when I was taught to write in school over 40 years ago as the correctly approach if you do not know, or do not wish to assign gender.

Spray painted the HeroQuest tiles with a black undercoat today. Immediately happy with the results.

It's much darker than these pics suggest. The matt coat really takes the shine off the black PLA - which I still appreciate as that hides a lot of sins.

It is very helpful on such a large set, where there is a lot to do, detail to avoid obscuring as well as print artifacts to minimise and recesses to avoid clogging up.

@tvaziri I would often like to see longer movies that studios seem willing to typically tolerate. The editing process seems to lead to exposition that explains characters motivation or provides context being cut from the theatrical releases. Not everything needs to be 3-4 hours but some of the fan edits that add 20-30 minutes of scenes to 2 hour theatrical release cuts can really change how they land.

I remember not needing it anymore after System 8 as the memory management changed, but it was really helpful with System 7 where the amount of installed RAM limited what programs you could run side by side (tricky for multimedia development) and what size files you could work with, IIRC I had to increase the allocation for an application like Photoshop to be able to open large images.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help." Sounds like an actual nightmare shopper experience. I have walked out of stores for less.
