Can’t give any solution because I had the same problem pretty much where I live and I just went into web development because I gotta eat.
Though I can say that nobody stops you from doing all kinds of programming in your free time, open source also gives you a lot of interesting things to work on if you have the time to dive in and try to get your hands dirty with a project.
There definitely are differences in common practices and concepts when going from web dev to other areas of computer science, but you can always find parallels and similar logic. It definitely would help to be able to properly study new things, but it’s both very time consuming and expensive, so that’s not a solution for everyone.

Are you using systemd or an alternative, what do you recommend?
What are some significant differences to expect when switching to an alternative, and can that affect gaming compatibility and performance?

How is it malicious compliance if it is a clearly eager effort to correctly implement some of the prerequisites to enforcing this law on Linux? Even if it were malicious compliance through intentionally not functional code, it’s open source and would probably be spotted as a bug soon enough.

Responsibility should bear consequences as well, no one should be having the “freedom” to choose to ruin their child’s life by turning it into an uneducated detached from society adult. It’s not very much unlike a cult deciding that they have the right to keep a child away from society and raise it however they see fit, and I imagine that’s illegal in most places if not everywhere.
