@ohthesetrees@peoplemaking.games There are two factors at play here: Core system and desktop environment. Mint is based on Ubuntu which is based on Debian. Ubuntu Cinnamon has the Ubuntu core with the DE from Mint. While Mint has Cinnamon plus all of Mint’s tweaks to the Ubuntu core. Which is better is nuanced and up to user choice.

This has definitely been an interesting year. We made 5 1100 mile round trips to see my mom before she died (19 months with terminal cancer) and to go to her memorial. My daughter finished preschool and started kindergarten. Our pop-up camper had a roof leak, a corner separate, and the wheels break off in the mountains. We camped once. I transferred to a corporate IT job with much better pay. Next year will be so much better!

This bill is bad all the way around and it fits a pattern of internet regulations that don’t do what they claim and instead hurt marginalized groups. Especially considering the right’s satanic panic like attack on trans people, I doubt any meaningful, thoughtful, and rational regulation is possible and I don’t trust Facebook and Twitter to do better.

@evangreer@mastodon.online There are studies showing increased depression and suicidal ideation rates among children because of social media, while I would rather see a ban on minors on social media, this is an attempt to do something about it. The fact that members of the right are jumping on board because of their current version of blood libel, the red scare, or the satanic panic is unfortunate and disgusting.

@that_leaflet@fosstodon.org @sonny@floss.social In more testing on a different laptop (also with Fedora 38) my Yubikey works in the Fedora version of Firefox, not Flathub version. Flatseal shows both having smart card and all device access.

@that_leaflet@fosstodon.org @sonny@floss.social I just did some more testing and it’s the Fedora Flatpack of Firefox that doesn’t work with Yubikeys, the Flathub version works fine and in use was indistinguishable from the RMP version of Firefox.

@sonny@floss.social I’ve personally found the sandboxing to be too limiting to be usable more often than not enough sandboxing. For example, the Flatpack Firefox doesn’t support U2F keys.
