OH: I tricked once with one of Tallulah Bankhead's pallbearers.
Autocorrupt just changed "got engaged" to "got shafted", which is quite a flip.
I'm gonna need an updated profile picture for various apps when I start my new job. All the pics I'm finding in my roll are, shall we say, inappropriate.
Oh yay, nothing like having to complete a drug test to qualify for employment, with the appointment window at the most convenient location being /this/ close to the deadline to get it done.
So scrambling to find one that takes walk-ins or an appointment with enough leeway to make other arrangements if that falls though.
Also, and I can't even take a Xanax because drug test.
Time to start the background check process for the new job. Never raised any flags back in the day when something /might/ have come up, but there's always something in the back of my head that wonders...
I just accepted a job offer for a fully remote position that will eventually require a visit to corporate HQ, which is located ~90 minutes from where I grew up.
It's tempting to plan some extra time to stop by the old digs but I'm estranged (my choice) so don't really want to see what's left of the family who raised me. I also don't know anyone else who still lives there, and was never that close to them in the first place. I've learned about as much as I feel I need to just from Street View.
So I guess I'll just look out the airplane window and be thankful that's as close as I'm going to get. Then I'll hope no one asks me where I'm from and deflect any deeper questions.

True story: In 1994, my now-retired actor-husband was trying to get work in commercials, and (shortly before we met) he had to submit a video-taped audition for a local/Midwest grocery chain promoting their meat.
So he sent in his tape and got no response. I heard him do the line "Here at Major Meat..." several times as he told the story after sending it in, and while it's not too surprising that he didn't get a callback (lots of competition for the role), it was surprising that I'd never heard of Major Meat.
"Are you sure it's a big chain?"
"Yeah, they have stores all over. M-E-I-J-E-R"
"It's not 'Major Meat', it's 'My-er'."
And that's how he didn't get the job.
Throwback. I can't be the only one here who remembers this commercial.
I hope the company I have an interview with on Wednesday didn't notice I joined the meeting this morning after misreading the invite.
Reminder that the 10th Amendment doesn't automatically throw non-Federal issues to the states, it can also grant rights directly to the people.
Anyone who claims the 10th Amendment in the name of states' rights (abortion, marriage, voting) only wants the state to do the oppressing rather than the federal government.
Interview prep on a Sunday afternoon because I spent so much time last week crash-studying things I barely know instead of refreshing my memory of the things I do know.

"Malicious practices create a mismatch between user expectations and the actual outcome, leading to a negative and deceptive user experience, or compromised user security or privacy."
When the user expectation is "do not track" but they track anyway, it's a malicious practice.

@makeitmythic Maybe they felt (as I used to) that the lower limit helps ensure breadth of experience and maturity, but it's up to the voters (originally the states themselves) to have confidence and faith in their choices.
There may have been a time when elected officials acted in the best interest of their office and the people they represent, but they only seem to represent their campaign funds and today's voters don't have enough education, sincerity, compassion, or concern for the consequences to make the right decisions.

The strongest argument for an upper age limit for the presidency is sitting in office right now. Not for dementia reasons, but so that they live long enough to be prosecuted and punished for their actions.

So begins my first day of actual unemployment since [checks] January 2008. I'm spending the day catching up on transfer of health insurance benefits (thanks a bunch, US "health care system").
I told myself when I started this position that I wanted it to be my last tech job. I still mostly feel that way but I was hoping it would have lasted a bit longer.
