@ahltorp @dangillmor You missed the context. When I was working with autonomous vehicles, I regularly saw pedestrians jump out in front of the cars to "test" them. Also, people on bikes, scooters, and skateboards would try to grab on and have the car pull them along. Some people even jumped on top (and that often ended badly). The interesting thing is that the cars never hit even the people who deliberately jumped in front of them.

@dangillmor The idea that they're just going to run people and cyclists over willy nilly is absurd. I work in the industry (not for Waymo) and dealt with multiple scenarios where pedestrians would jump out in front of our cars on purpose. Is that a stupid thing to do? Yes, but the cars wouldn't hit them. Because it can't. The have collision detection that will stop the car. We even ran a test where we tried to make it hit a child-sized dummy, and it just wouldn't do it.

@MichaelTBacon a combination of resistance on the part of the people, and incompetence on the part of ICE is a combination I can get behind.
