@hannahmakes@mastodon.social Yes! Though I never found the star map in the bar, so other than the simple cipher I didn’t solve much. I did have fun though buggering about with the nfc, convinced you had somehow hidden something in the unallocated space. But even the glyph part was the perfect tonic. I was having low-spoons moment and it was exactly the right level of puzzle to get me going again! Thank You so much for making it!

Is that just in your hardware or a standard (I still have some old pagers, which is would be a fun project to reflash if chancing the RIC was all that was needed). BTW I’ve wanted to demonstrate POCSAG decoding at @bsidesleeds@infosec.exchange for years, ideally letting people learn legitimately and legally, but then arming them with the knowledge that changing the frequency (and ignoring some dated and unenforced sections of the wireless communications act) was all that was needed to snoop on al POCSAG/flex traffic

Secondly, I’m curious as to the ‘solution’. I certainly solved some parts with relative ease, but I’m not sure

Wether I found the natural end of the puzzle
Wether the RFID I had was misconfigured accidentally
Wether RFID I has was set up in a way that I simply failed to decode
Whether I simply missed an obvious ‘next step’ somewhere.

@joenash@hachyderm.io I know this is a few months too late (this is my first EMF and I only found out this morning you had an on-site arcade), but still. I was going to chuck in my retrogaming/computing stack (MiSTer FPGA, RetroPie with - greaseweal and 3.5. & 5.25 drive in a mini rackmount cab, with a retail CRT TV and a tonne of OG controllers) just to have in our villiage, but if you want it (and I can find room in the car) then you’re welcome to it in the arcade. Also, (again, likely months too late) if you need volunteers (this year or in the future) I’d be delighted to offer my services.

@tautology@infosec.exchange @bloor@bloor.tw I think the 3 of us are old enough when people had the similarly strong feelings over GUIs instead of CLIs, strong typed programming languages and optimising compilers The genie is long out of the bottle, at least with artwork people understand the value of ‘hand crafted’. I can’t imagine ‘artisanal hand-coded web apps’ being a thing anyone is screaming for in the future.

I’m around Gildy tomorrow morning, probably doing roller on the rec, but it’s only 5 mins from home, the back in Bradford for a tournament in the afternoon. If any of that fits, great, but if not, I don’t mind driving out in the evening. The other option is if you’re still at the hackspace regularly, is there somebody there who could bring it to DC151 on Wednesday?

@tamonten@mstdn.social yeah, I’m not against the idea of just buying a new tent, but I know after EMF it’ll just sit in the garage and rot until somebody else has a need for it, so for once I was trying to be a little more sustainable And I’d absolutely be putting it up first, not least because I don’t want to be that guy who has no idea how is tent goes up, in front of a crowd :) Will check calendar once I’m home and can speak to Jill because I know we have some ice hockey in Bradford (and possibly Leeds) this weekend, I’m not not 100% sure what and when, though 75% of the time I’ll be in Gildersome

Before I head to Decathlon or Go Outdoors, nobody has a mid size tent they’d be prepared to lend more for EMF Camp do they? I have a couple of ‘festival’ 2-man tents but EMF looks like I need to take a tonne of stuff, so much bigger is better.
