How does one become part of / connect with this movement, rather than continue working in the “shadows” of the walled gardens? I looked for contact info on the article and web site, but didn’t find any.
A friend and I are working on a system that I think follows very much the values you espouse, focused around grassroots culture (our “reason to connect”): https://www.culturereverb.co.uk/

@kathimmel@mstdn.social My local family owned vet got bought out by Mars. As a result, I shall probably not consider having another pet. It’s certainly s big strike against.

@kfitz@hcommons.social This essay reminds me of Niven and Pournelle’s “The Mote in God’s Eye”. One might say that “making good ruins” is exactly what the (fictional) Moties did?

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social I’ve been reflecting on this. For the UK, wondering if we might consider a government petition that explicitly requests that all public (or publicly funded) services can be accessed and used without being forced to use any (especially any foreign) third party service?

@timbray@cosocial.ca This is wild. And way too plausible. I didn’t begin to suspect satire until I read the responses. 🤷♂️

@jarkman@chaos.social @jonathanhogg@mastodon.social Several years ago, I played around with using Haskell as a substrate for a DSL. Used a combinator parser (Parsec) to spit out a directly executable “compiled” function. I’ve occasionally thought it would be fun to do something similar for CSG.

@jonathanhogg@mastodon.social @jarkman@chaos.social Ack. Having now watched, I think your Alpaca talk is a pretty good intro. I see some resonance in your approach with OpenSCAD (different goals, of course).

@jarkman@chaos.social @jonathanhogg@mastodon.social Would love to have my ear bent about Flitter at EMF 😀. Are you planning to do your talk there? (I guess there’s that YouTube you posted, but I kind of like live performance 😜)

@zool@en.osm.town @SK53@en.osm.town I recall being around in those days, very vaguely in a similar orbit … it may seem commonplace now, but that article is a reminder of just how visionary you people were back then.

@dcrocker@mastodon.social @dangillmor@mastodon.social Arguably, this is how Twitter worked, and Mastodon now works, for me. There is a bunch of people I follow, and their choices determine what I see. I miss lots, but there’s very little clickbait.
