We walked for a while longer and turned around. We saw one of the pileated woodpeckers again, looking for bugs in a dead tree.
Then we were almost home and I glanced to my left and saw a red-shouldered hawk sitting on a street sign about ten feet away! It flitted to a stop sign that was just a little bit further and sat there for a while.
