In the past I’ve used palette snooping to implement hardware projects that visualize VGA palette updates in MS-DOS games. When you are the video card you don’t even have to snoop the palette!

I needed a way to test my FPGA designs, so I built a PCI validation platform with a custom PCI bridge board. Here it is hosting the VGA core from ao486, and of course it runs DOOM.

if this 100% FPGA demo is passing for a shader, that’s probably my cue to release it. this is an early demo of my own work to replicate the 3dfx sst-1 pipeline in systemverilog. there is a non-canon geometry engine driving it from within the FPGA for kicks.
