@pozorvlak@mathstodon.xyz @regehr@mastodon.social there were many competing java implementations at the time, and the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Harmony team weren't allowed to share code or ideas with the IBM Java team.
I have completely forgotten why anyone cared or why IBM was funding any of this, everything was a bit busy being on fire while I was there.

@regehr@mastodon.social there were a lot of people in one place at IBM working on the two java implementations, on adjacent floors, but not allowed to talk to each other. If you include stdlib authoring and porting as compiler engineering, then that would be a huge number.

Possibly one of these, although why only the water pump and not like the compressor would be using such a complicated controller, I don't know.
