I'd like to find new employment but looking out at the listings right now its so hard to find a good needle in the 'AI Native' haystack. Everyone is drinking the koolaid in some way, so I have to just grit my teeth and carry on because at least I have not been forced to use the chatbot to do my work yet. Is it too much to ask for a company with good engineering practices and resistance to fads? Am I just in La La Land and need to come to grips that all these jobs suck and I just need to be content with my lot?

I got into this industry because I thought that I would work on Cool Shit and Make the World a Better Place but I've come to learn that the things I used to think were cool are actually evil under the hood and actively making the world a worse place is way more profitable than doing the right thing. And here I am making some of the most boring software I could have ever imagined to exist, not necessarily making the world worse but I struggle to see how it makes it much better

I feel like my career in tech thus far has been characterized mostly by interacting with things and learning that I Do Not Like Them. Software as a service? Fuck that, this shit is infinitely replicable, why are we rent seeking? New tech? It is most certainly a grift peddled by the most annoying people in the world. Software product that actually tries to solve real problems? Damn, too bad those problems cannot actually be fixed by an app

I dont remember who said it but I read on here some time ago about how anti-war media is just as obsessed with war as pro-war media, and I think that this anti-ai circlejerk has the same thing going on. There's a time and place to make the arguments against it, and even crash out over it if one needs, but if it's all we post about then we're doing no better than the boosters
