@Jeremiah I think I understand what youre trying to say, but I don't see how speaking the local language is an *arbitrary* expectation when you emigrate to a different country, especially when you've lived there for years.
It's one thing if you can't afford to learn it or if there aren't resources, and it's another thing entirely to say it's not useful to you in particular as a rationale.
This might land poorly if a Svenskar friend hears it like so: it could essentially sound like "your language is not very useful to me when I live in your country and I have no interest in engaging with your culture")
Which is entirely your prerogative!
