i try to do something im happy to put out into the world each day (often i fail!) before i get into my regular work. today i worked on some edits to Learn You a Haskell, just minor edits but still feels good. and the folks maintaining it are super nice!

Online Nerves meetup TONIGHT (Wednesday), sounds like fun. For those that don't know, Nerves is for embedded programming using Elixir. We're promised some exotic devices, I can't wait to see! Join up to check it out!

Goatmire was the most fun conference I've ever been to. It's Elixir + Nerves, which is already cool, but I think it's really the vibes that made it great last year. Talks are super varied. It's in a literal theatre and it really has that feeling of watching a production rather than dull conference stuff. I'm on the program committee this year and would love to see your talk on the list! First-time speakers are especially encouraged to submit. "I don't have anything to talk about", I call bullshit. If you're in my network, you have something to say. Here's the link: https://sessionize.com/goatmire-elixir-2026 (image taken by Mathias Wingert)

I suck at sending invoices (and really adulting). But I've cracked the code. Turns out it's much easier to spend a ton of time building an automated invoice generation system rather than spending 3 minutes making an invoice via a web interface. So, yeah. Soon I'll have a fully automated time tracking and invoice automation system. Maybe I'll even add it to cron!

@Chad one dimension is whether i use it to code, and so far, i dont use it for code assist (i use helix editor which doesnt even support that) nor do i use it to write code for me ala vibecoding. the main reason for this is literally if i stop coding, i'll forget how to code. the half-life for any programming language is like one week in my head. i'll still remember the general ideas but i couldnt write code if i took a break. sure, ethics and all but no, i need all the help i can get to keep the language warm for me.

i reposted a linkedin article and poked fun at how silly it was, got 0 likes on it. people on linkedin are so serious and need to keep the hype image. or maybe my post just sucked, maybe both! god i just want to troll on linkedin so bad.

Women in Games France is hosting a pizza get-together tonight (Feb 24) in Paris. I'm not sure if I can make it, but sounds fun. You must reserve your spot here: https://my.weezevent.com/afterwork-wig-france-fevrier-2026-paris

i need to develop a clear and coherent stance on LLM usage. what i do know, im afraid of what the future is going to look like. im sad if programming as a thing goes away - i enjoy programming. im afraid for all the jobs that will be lost. most of the contract work i get involves AI or the company uses AI a lot. the tech itself is interesting but tainted by all the other stuff i mentioned. its a very polarising subject too, many people love love love it (usually they are in an AI startup) or they hate it.

i remember going to baseball games as a child and always being worried what if the ball is hit towards me and smacks me right in the head? i don’t think this was a major preoccupation for other kids. but think about it. bro is hitting a ball as hard as he can and often goes right into the audience. how can this be safe? we’re not even wearing protection.

i worked for groupon for a bit, they were pretty big at the time. i remember being so surprised when i saw the site go down regularly. i wasn’t part of the tech team doing site stuff but i was on the hipchat channels with them. they’d do pushes that just broke the site completely. i never understood why people found this acceptable. idk, test better? they should’ve used phoenix and nix 🤭
