I guess the surprise here is that internally they actually thought a heavy, $3500, M5 variant of the headset was really going to be something of the next iPad or iPhone and not a platform for developers and enthusiasts to get their feet wet with “spatial” and true AR experiences.
Using and developing for #visionOS almost daily, imo its pretty obvious that there’s huge potential, but it’s a very different skill set just to start making compelling spatial experiences and the current hardware is a way to enable developers and designers to learn what works and what doesn’t.
But I would be SHOCKED if we don’t see large portions of visionOS/Vision Pro technologies end up in future versions of smart glasses, AirPods, etc. The technology aspects are too great to ignore.
