@sim431@sfba.social @zkat@toot.cat Honestly, this is generally how I use tumblr, too, by browsing and following people in the posts that the people I already follow share (except there's more people in one tumblr post than just the op). Rarely ever use the search.

- local/federated timelines, where you just look at a lot of posts from everyone and hope something catches your eye
- people you follow boost stuff onto your home dash, and you may decide to follow the person they boosted
- looking through a person's page and checking out who they've boosted or replied to (replies are the next tab over from just posts)
- getting linked from off-site; this is technically how I found @Chippersmol@mastodon.lol (I'm in a Discord with them and they liked their Mastodon)

@zkat@toot.cat Ah. What causes it, do you think? Obviously, the lack of algorithm is a major contributor (as said on tumblr, "there is no algorithm. *We* are the algorithm"), but even tumblr gets famous/infamous posts for awhile.
