In hindsight, the most unrealistic bit of 2001: A Space Odyssey is the bit where HAL9000 says "I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that" - 'cos the kind of AIs we're actually building would be "Sure, I'm opening the pod bay doors for you right away!" - and then deliberately kill Dave in the face.

The man who keeps pushing software updates to block people he doesn't like from the platform he spent forty four billion dollars on?
Imagine if somebody like that could push software updates to your car. No opt-out. Just decides he doesn't like you and pushes out an update to make your stereo play Eiffel 65 on repeat. Or y'know, make your autopilot drive you into a concrete wall at 150mph.
I'm glad we have so many rigorous legal safeguards and vetting procedures to make sure that can't happen.
