@GeePawHill@mastodon.social My stroke of library fortune was when my Mom had a quiet talk with the librarian, and my 11 year old borrowing limit was quietly doubled. I didn't know such a thing was possible.

A good, "we used to know this, then forgot it, and are now re-inventing it but with different [ed: adversarial] incentives" presentation on alerts and notifications. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ira28fgSF7M

Re-sorted a bunch of cables to consign half to e-waste. Now have ziplock bags with labels "USB A", "USB micro", "USB mini", and "USB WTF?!?" That last bag scares me. In boxes here somewhere there are probably oddball devices that need one of those cables that's USB on one end and something decidedly not USB on the other. A sure way to discover which is to throw those cables away.

@marick@mstdn.social Many years back when I was driving my daughter to an early HS class ('zero hour', may such things die in a fire), we'd crank this up to jump start the morning. It delivers.

We have a whiteboard that's old enough that WIndex only moves the smudges around. Found a new (to me) cleaning method that uses toothpaste, isopropyl alcohol, and WD-40. And it works! Note the advice on using unscented toothpaste. I didn't, and a room here now smells MINTY FRESH! https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/how-to-restore-an-old-whiteboard/

@jasongorman@mastodon.cloud Ask them to complete the thought. Often it's some combination of "... and then the tests run forever and slow us down," and "the tests are brittle, and having to constantly stop and fix them slows us down." There's not great guidance on how to navigate that (or there is, but it's drowned out by guidance that isn't so great).

@timbray@cosocial.ca It might help to distinguish between text and image. I see little of the former, and alot of the latter.
