@mcnado@mstdn.social The reason right-wing asshats often give about why we "don't need universal healthcare" is that everyone gets treated in the ER (at a minimum.) None of them are talking lately about how ERs stay afloat. ERs are cost centers, required to be there for the building to be called a hospital, but if you starve them for money, for-profit hospitals will starve them for resources. And more people will die. And oligarchs will drink champagne and see their concierge doctor on a yacht call.

@Stefan_S_from_H@mastodon.social @davew@mastodon.social I do actually think having access to dozens of mentions in a search result and being able to select one from a source with which you're familiar or which may relate the reference to some cultural reference closer to your experience is likely more useful to you than me saying "It's about Trump crimes", because outside of some very techy things or vintage cars I'm not that great an educator.

I try to hit news sources outside the US bubble to be less of the insular American, and I often need to search around to figure out what's meant by references that seem arcane to me but are natural to people living in the context from which the reference was made.

Even without Trump, if they knew her name is really Nimrata they'd never vote for her in a million years, but MAGAts are the poster kids for "low-information voters" so they just know what Fox and Newsmax and Russian twitter-bots tell them.

I'd see NOTHING from anyone I was following and all sorts of other random junk and then realize it had gone to the algorithm-driven "Home." I think it increases "stickiness" for a lot of users because it's all hot-topic crack for the addicts.
