@endeavorance@astral.camp a bit of silicone scar sheet over it as it heals should help minimize the appearance, and if that's not enough, there's nothing wrong with a dab of concealer if it's something that bothers you. Just rockin the scar is always an option too!

I think the migraine might actually be over now

Didn't get to sleep till 7 this morning, finally got it manageable with Tylenol, spent most of the day sleeping. Laundry will have to wait until Sunday. Now I'm more like regular levels of tired for this time of evening.

@charette@mstdn.ca no matter what the original saying is, I believe I've seen research showing that money does buy happiness... to a point. Basically, once you have enough that your needs are met and you have a solid emergency savings, more money doesn't necessarily make you happier. However, you still need to be careful about "lifestyle creep" bringing back that paycheck-to-paycheck stress.

@hazel@shrimp.starlightnet.work it also doesn't help that kids' main sources of tech use (phones, tablets, Chromebooks, game consoles) deliberately abstract away the filesystem and lock everything down into walled gardens. But also, remember, a lot of adults are just as tech illiterate, too. A 2016 report by the OECD had 4.7% of adults who reported prior computer usage who couldn't do tasks such as use a mouse or scroll on a web page to take the computer based assessment. Tech skills have to be learned, and if the adults in a kid's life don't have them, their only hope is to be curious enough to seek help online.

Sister and her kiddos are in the road now. They came over today for Mother's Day, and our mom decided she wanted it to be a "no devices" day so we could all be sociable.

A good plan, but the 4 kids being completely without phones or tablets meant it got fucking loud at times, and I had to go out on the porch for a break from the noise. The AuDHD life means knowing your limits on overstimulating things and how to politely handle things when you're at your limit.

Kind of tired because my dumb ass stayed up all night last night reading fanfiction. Might have hit my second wind, though, because now I'm not feeling it nearly as much as i was earlier.

Also, Little Miss was upset with me earlier for the audacity of sticking her in a cat carrier and putting her in the car so she could get her rabies shot. At least this year she didn't try to bolt as soon as the vet opened the carrier. I know she'll forgive me though.

It's funny how it feels weird to me to hear some of the YouTubers i follow talk about being a parent. Not because i don't think of someone like that as parent material, but more surprised that they have the time to record hours of footage, and do voice overs, and in some cases, even edit those hours of footage while also being a parent. And that they also can do this as a job, because I'm sure if they needed a regular job to pay the bills, then they wouldn't have time to both make videos and be a decent parent.

I mean, good on them if they can make "i play Minecraft/Space Engineers/whatever on YouTube" their living, out just feels like the chances of breaking into that is so low, it takes me a bit for surprise when i realize that it's happened for someone.

@davidho@mastodon.world I'm a millennial gone back to college for a new attempt at finally getting a bachelor's degree, and have steadfastly been against using AI shit for any of it... But i won't say I'm not tempted to at least spitball some ideas with it for the English literature class that i have to have to graduate but will do absolutely nothing for my future career in accounting. Because i have been terrible at lit papers my entire educational career, mainly due to "what the hell do i even write about???" Since i feel like I've never really been taught how to write about literature: how to pick a thesis, etc. and it's just expected that we know. (Maybe a failing of high school or earlier English college classes, but that doesn't make it less of a problem.)

@jammy the only actual books I've been reading lately have been my textbooks for my college classes. It's kind of funny, in a way, that i used to just devour books as a pastime, and now I'm mainly reading fanfiction for that sort of reading.

@GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social eh, don't forget the asterisk of "only on supported devices." I understand that manually backporting major security and system updates to "EOL" devices is too effort for what you probably see as a small number of potential users, but it still sticks in my craw a little that my pixel 6a is unsupported, even though the hardware continues to be needs-suiting and i don't want to contribute to the growing e-waste problems not than I need to. I don't want to have to buy another new (or new-to-me) device just so i can get the kind of privacy and security that ought to be part of modern Android to begin with (though that part's surveillance capitalism's fault, not yours)
