We achieved perfection in 1995 and have been falling from grace ever since #trackballs4eva

This piece by Ted Chiang — which is fantastic — about why (deep existential sigh) AI is not conscious, reminds me of moon landing truthers and why we can be so confident that people have walked on the moon. https://www.theatlantic.com/philosophy/2026/06/no-artificial-intelligence-is-not-conscious/687378/?gift=1ga2TvL-DbuHDQIcYF7oR7CsNA92bD_yo6VqlH7-uco&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share&_bhlid=b174c7d8568462c5c19a1b0d57470982092eaff7

Wow, even Codex has jumped ship and joined Anthropic! 😂

Splitting design from engineering was always a compromise. AI is making it an expensive one. A prompt without taste produces slop, and taste without the ability to read the code produces wishful thinking. Holding both is what lets you actually ship.

Here's a new piece on why I think design engineers — designers who code, end to end (like me) — are the right model for building software now, especially as AI changes what 'making' even means.

Spending tomorrow at Sanity's Everything *[NYC] event in Brooklyn. Schedule looks very, very Sanity — talks about custom apps and content operations, plus art, DJs, and great food.

Attendees received badges early via FedEx, but with a twist: the name space is blank, for folks to fill in themselves. I made my best effort at recreating GT Standard and our logo in 2-3 layers of Sharpie marker — how did I do? 😅

If you're gonna be there too, come say hi!

Quick question: How do you know when your website has gone from helping your business to hurting it?

Spoiler: it happens gradually, then suddenly. 😱

I shared some thoughts on this pattern I see constantly in our work on the Bits&Letters blog: http://btslttrs.com/bsky-first-site

Replying to @jimray@mastodon.social
@jimray@mastodon.social what happened to the left-of-center dudes? Their brains got rotted by sports gambling? (Not snark, genuinely want to hear your take and worried I missed something)
