@Flamekebab I think so, yes. My rule of thumb is “if you can get out of bed, it’s not the flu”. My point was more about how the words tend to function in practice (especially since people seem to think having a really bad cold isn’t a valid reason to miss work, so they call it “flu”)

This is largely about people memory-holing the pandemic so they can pretend it isn’t happening, didn’t happen and can never happen again, but another factor is *linguistic*. We already had “cold” (for a respiratory virus that doesn’t stop us going to work) and “flu” (for one that does) – so there wasn’t really a linguistic gap for “covid” to fill

One problem is that Trump has got everyone so freaked out about potential nuclear attacks on Iran that, when he “merely” uses conventional bombs to destroy Iran’s desalination plants, power plants and other civilian infrastructure, many people will just go “oh thank god for that” – while potentially vast numbers of Iranians die

Just saw a post from someone saying they can’t bring themselves to care about Timothee Chalamet’s comments on ballet and opera, which is an entirely reasonable, even enviable, position to be in.
