I was perusing Bluesky for the first time in months and noticed something:
Maybe I just follow particularly decent people (who only boost particularly decent people) on Mastodon, but it seems to me that over here there’s far less outrage directed at those who don’t share 100% of one’s opinions.* We’ve got our complaints, obviously—I don’t know how to exist in 2026 without them—but I haven’t seen as much “I hate this fucking idiot because his idea of how to defeat Trump is different than mine.”

I think the AI bros and their political arm will soon seem very similar to the gun lobby in the face of tragedy. Except, instead of “Dead kids are a small price to pay for the FREEDOM TO SHOOT THINGS!”, it will be “Dead kids are a small price to pay for TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS!”
Expect them to start promoting every “solution” (mental health, age verification, bulletproof smartphones, etc.) other than regulation of AI, even a little bit.
The serious injury is obviously that America would have to hear Trump whine and snivel about not getting whatever he wants RIGHT NOW. And I, for one, do not know how much more of that I can take.

This is why we can be absolutely certain the government has no information about extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.
I’ve gotten more pissed off about this over the course of the day. About gerrymandering, I mean, not the court ruling. The Trumpian acceptance—nay, *enthusiasm*—for blatant, predatory exploitation of the system is now the standard political posture: “We are going to cheat to stay in power, because we can.”
The explicit replacement of “It’s the right thing to do” with “I’m allowed to do it” is a societal death knell. If we’re to survive, we need guardrails. We need accountability. We need shame.

This is a bummer—but also, if it really ran afoul of the law, that’s life. The biggest takeaway from all this gerrymandering madness is this: In a post-shame political environment, we need to agitate for a national redistricting standard that puts all states on an even playing field. I don’t know if that requires a constitutional amendment or what, but fuck all this cynical race-to-the-bottom shit.
I don’t want to tell car alarm designers how to do their jobs, but I would argue if a car alarm is going off for an hour straight without being disabled, there’s probably very little utility for it to continue going off. So, I’m thinking, maybe build in an auto-off timer. Or a self-destruct mechanism. I don’t actually care how, I just want it to shut the f%^k up.
This shit makes me so goddamn furious. We need to hold RFK and his minion fuckwits civilly liable, at the least, for the untold death and suffering they’re responsible for. History will remember them as not only crackpots but also criminals against humanity.

I had this googled on the screen of my phone, all set to make a “Board of Peace” joke, when I saw a commentator make the same comparison. So instead I’ll go with “Bored of Peace.” I haven’t seen that yet. But of course it’s been done somewhere. Post-satire reality. The jokes are all the same and they’re real life, not jokes.
