@AdrianRiskin @joyfulcarla Yeah, I think Dahl was on to something with his willingness to let genuine nastiness into childrens' stories, however there are many kinds of it which he was clearly taking the wrong side on, in ways that were not excusable at any point. I adored his writing around ages 6-7, at one point I declared I would not read any other author, and I'm pretty sure it's because this sense of genuinely fucked up stuff going on was more relatable than most stuff aimed at children. The Trunchbull feels real as a terrifying authority villain when you're six, and it's super engaging, then you grow up and go "hmm, why was such a big deal made of how she used to be a hammer thrower"

@joyfulcarla there is no way in hell the intention was to teach kids about radical politics, given roald dahl was all kinds of oppressive and conservative, but "danny, champion of the world" definitely left an impression in a way you kind of only can if you don't look like you're trying

Is there a word for "body language accent" and is there a body of literature on this subject that I could find if I had the right keywords?
I mean things like styles of sitting attributed regionality ("asian squat", "western toilet"), levels of physicality in speech ("gag an italian by handcuffing them"), also things like the way a lot of white American men will have been trained to pitch a ball with a certain posture that reminds you of specifically baseball, or how nearly everyone who went through the Finnish school system has a certain angle to the way they sit. This way of holding oneself and expressing oneself which seems like actually the deepest level of cultural identification for many.

@JankaWessman the amount my memory and learning capacity improved when I ditched the notifications machine (stopped using a smartphone) is something I would love to see real research into sometime, because I truly doubt I was the only one suffering from the same issues. But most people are not bull-headed enough to pull off smartphone free life these days.

@menneisyytesi Aina jos yrittää tehdä muutosta tässä, on joku valmis sanomaan, että poisvaihto olisi joku -ismi (ableismi jos ehdottaa että unohdetaan metaa, kun autistiset eivät sietää muutoksiin! sinofobiaa, jos kommentoi, että tiktok on erityisen pahaa! jne jne), mikä pysähtyy keskustelu kokonaan.
