@Aut@hachyderm.io I'm super curious if you come up with any other ideas. Neither I nor google gemini have thought of anything I like. Somehow a line depicting height above ground could be interesting, but that just collapses into a dot on a top down map, lol. My mind wanders to the old "elite" space combat video game that had a sort of orthographic view in combat, but my brain could never parse/leverage that very well in the heat of the moment so it's that's not feeling like the right way to go for me. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/elite-dangerous/images/4/43/Sidewinder-Cockpit-Interface.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20170605142211

@Aut @WiredForFlight I have a "nicegui" (python) based UAS operator station with moving map (open-street-map). Long ago I had a VRF chart layer working, but that source went away and I've never gotten around to tracking down a new source. For me I'm assuming a web connection (although the nicegui script runs local so you can run offline.) For another part of the project I've been pulling in bing satellite tiles and draping them over SRTM terrain for a fairly convincing 3d world view. Kinda like google earth from 15 years ago before they added 3d objects. I'm using a quad-tree LOD scheme and downloading data JIT and building the 3d tiles ... using python and panda3d. I think developing for tablets/phones is probably an entirely different world though. I'm probably too old school to learn how to do that lol. I'm happy running my python scripts on my linux laptop. :-) One of these days I wanted to work on a 3d flight visualizer with paths and stuff, but there's never enough time in the world and work and life has been kicking my butt for the past few months. https://youtu.be/WR6JeLOauIY https://youtu.be/d6G-cHO-uTU

@Aut @WiredForFlight Are those tiles served out from some place in slippy tile format? (maybe usable by leaflet.js?) I have a little uav operator station project I do on the side from time to time.

@JohnOCFII @Aut Yes, sorry to hear that. When you are ready to think about it, consider sending in your application to Cirrus. I'm not directly connected to software development groups, but my sense is the software needs are never going to get fewer and cirrus does a variety of aviation related things. We have a customer facing app called Cirrus IQ and there are various software tools and things being developed for training programs. And I'm sure there are other forward looking software dev efforts going on from time to time to one degree or another. Coming from foreflight might perk up a few ears ... I'm projecting ... I don't know. I'm not in the hiring loop for anything, but if there was a nice day to come up for a visit I could give you a little tour of our production area, take you out to sample some of the fine local cuisine near the airport, and depending on your interests and experience maybe drop your resume on a desk somewhere interesting. I can't offer this same deal to the next 100 people, but happy to help out a little bit where/if I can. Probably you won't find the super interesting job that's exactly what you want posted ... but getting your resume in the system means it's there if a group starts sniffing around to see what kind of people they might be able to find out there with specific skills. I don't know though ... there's what I think cirrus should do, and then there is what cirrus actually does, and sometimes there is quite a gap, lol ... but I have never run a profitable business so what do I know.
