Part of the problem with the incentives about how to write in essays and stuff I guess is that if you explain anything, it seems you're perceived as mincing words, as not taking a hard enough stance. People love the "real talk, come right out with it, guns blazing" but what it actually means is just opening with a page full of contentless vague positioning

It's starting to seem like water use is a bogeyman perpetuated by the hyperscaling industry itself so that in a few years when these things come online and people finally notice they're closed loop cooling systems, they'll be able to use "improvements in water use" to distract from the power and land use

I still think there's some places where code quality goes up because putting in the effort to improve code so that AI can iterate on it faster is perversely easier to sell to higher ups than putting in the exact same effort to improve it so human authors can iterate faster
