It depends on the strength of gravity, which falls off with distance. The formula for escape velocity is V_e = sqrt(2GM/d) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_velocity) G is newton’s gravitational constant M is the mass of the planet d is the distance to the center of the planet So, if you have a 1 m/s drive, to reach escape velocity, you need to run it until the distance, d, is big enough that V_e < 1 m/s. Then you can turn it off.
