It has nothing to do with being infectious and there are many other conditions that result in a similar effect. You would be at no more risk than by my simply breathing in your vicinity. Wearing a mask may result in difficulty breathing that I would otherwise not experience. Thank you for your understanding.

@webology @CodenameTim @mahryekuh it sounds like it's up to the conferences organisers to decide if they have the resources to request the slides in advance. If they do, they may also have an obligation to state why.
Most situations are eased by ensuring all parties understand what's happening.

@mahryekuh I once had the opposite. I was sent image files to review about a week before giving a talk. Then when it came time to talk about the files I'd been sent, around a third didn't work on their own system!

I've often seen video clips of birds on Instagram, YouTube and - in the rather brief period I had an account - TikTok. But more often than not they only show the cute moments and that's just not the majority of your day with a bird. Especially budgies.
So I've written a thing on what it's really like living with them. I also managed to mention fountain pens and stationery briefly to keep @backupbear@aus.social happy.

@bobthomson70@mastodon.social @BBCRD@social.bbc oh no. No no no. It could be far, far worse. Right now you have a mix of moderators. Some who are awful, but others who genuinely make an effort to moderate fairly. If they're replaced with a badly trained LLM, that's the only option there is.

@BBCRD@social.bbc I tend to be on and off monolithic social media platforms as my mood improves and drops again. One thing that's become even more apparent than before I started using Mastodon and such is the quality of moderation.
Instagram: report clear and deliberate animal abuse, no violation found with an explanation of cultural relativism to explain it.
TikTok: report literal death threat - no violation found. Make a friendly comment - removed due to breaching the community guidelines.

@BBCRD@social.bbc I will be spending some time with this a little later. I see so much negative use of social media by people who otherwise appear to be perfectly pleasant and reasonable. I've been considering for a while what the factors are that create such effects are. Minimal groups, or whatever more recent research has evolved from it, would appear to be highly relevant, but I suspect there's more to it than that.
