@nono2357@infosec.exchange @danyork@mastodon.social this is an excellent breakdown of the strengths and limitations of large language models in what seems like their ideal use case: building a statistical model of a language. Thanks for sharing!

@heygarrett@social.lol the fan blows out, and therefore sucks air through the filters. One reason this works so well is that it’s filtering air through the large surface area of all the filters combined.

@yaelwrites @eric Different institutions and labs have different standards for whose name goes where (Eric’s link is a great example), but generally the first author is the lead for the project/paper, and the last author might be the head of that lab. Contributing authors will be in between, sometimes in order of how much they contributed. First and last will be the top candidates for an interview : ) Prestige in science is often measured in how many papers have your name on them, which journals they were published in, and how many times those papers have been cited in other papers. Hence the politics. That’s why I’m surprised you don’t see something similar for news articles. Honestly, I think movies do the best job. Everyone involved is listed at the end with their job title.

@yaelwrites I knew about headlines, but I didn’t realize how much news article attribution was like authors on a scientific paper. That’s a political cluster too, but it’s still much more common to see multiple names on a paper. Why do you think that isn’t the case for news articles?

@philheppenstall@mastodonapp.uk you’re not wrong but you’re also not 100% correct: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Gear#/media/File:Sega-Game-Gear-wTv-Tuner.jpg
Many channels used to broadcast movies on tv, which you could technically watch on the Game Gear
