In all seriousness using AI for codegen is at best shortsighted negligence. You know that problem huge long running software projects have where it becomes a nightmare to change anything? That’s some proportion of poor architectural design, lack of cleanup or refactor time, and poor understanding of the code by developers. Poor architectutal design can be repaired by cleanup and refactoring, so both of those issues end up being management/planning failures more than anything. Not understanding the codebase is much more complex. It can be caused by attrition causing loss of institutional knowledge, the code base growing faster than anyone can keep track of, the team being so large no one can stay on top of things, too much time passing since anyone has looked at or changed parts, lots of reasons. The only solution is doing a long audit and associated cleanup and refactoring. If you don’t it just takes forever to change anything because of all the knock on effects that no one can predict, meaning delays and bugs. When you use AI tools the code base grows very quickly, too quick to really comprehend, and you get shitty architecture to go along with it. You’re just speedrunning enterprise software or spending all your time reviewing slop code. It’s like a drug, the first time it does something fast and well you feel it’s so great, but it will never live up to that because it secretly sucks and can only ever suck. Best case it slows you down and you get good software at the end. Worst case you spend all your time wrestling with it and never get a finished product.

I like it so far. In the words of Worf, it serves me. I definitely miss some of the settings I had available on my old phone, but this one is much snappier. The os is basically the same as normal android but without the builtin google garbage. I still have the android app store. I guess the main thing is since its a fairphone repair and battery replacement will be much easier so hopefully I can just keep it for a long long time.

I think at this point capitalism is so close to the source of all our problems it's probably impossible to find an issue that hasn't been made much worse by it if it isn't the direct cause to begin with.

So many of us are in STEM I feel like we could pool our resources to make it work. Once we’ve got the land and the religious tax exemption we’d only need to pay the mortgage, food, and utilities. We could grow our own food and set up self sufficient solar/batteries. There’s so much we could do together that we couldn’t do alone!

What you have to realize is that being trans isn’t a choice, and our gender identity has historically been highly suppressed, so a lot of us end up living as our assigned gender for a large portion of our lives before realizing who we are and starting our transition. I didn’t realize who I was till I was 33, but some people don’t realize until their 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. So we are socialized as our assigned gender, and all that that entails. Many trans women end up in science, engineering, and technology roles because many of us are neurodivergent and neurodivergent people tend to be drawn to these fields. The gender based discrimination against women in these fields means trans men living as women pre transition are disinsentivized from these roles. I work in aerospace and it’s a major sausage fest. Since we often don’t transition until later in life you end up with a bunch of trans women in traditionally male dominated STEM positions and trans men in traditionally female dominated positions. In general though all trans people suffer worse outcomes in the work place, whether they’re trans women, men, or nonbinary. The outcomes are partially related to how “passing” they are, but also yes misogyny and misandry have their impact depending on where a particular trans person finds themself. As a trans woman in a historically highly misogynistic industry (which I love for the technical aspects) it’s just something I’m going to have to deal with. It fucking sucks and I wish things were different, like I also want more women around at work like holy fuck it doesn’t have to be all white dudes, but like I said before being trans isn’t really a choice. I am trans, and I can either transition and deal with the consequences for a chance at being finally happy in my skin or I can kill myself. That sounds really dark and maybe a bit dramatic but for a lot of trans people that’s the reality.

God fucking same. It’s got to be hard as fuck because I haven’t seen anyone able to do it. Pandora used to claim they were trying to do that with their music genome project but they just kind of never went anywhere with it and it slowly morphed into a shitty hidden algorithm just like every other place. To be fair though I find people are also terrible at it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked for recommendations for songs similar to one I really vibed with and the recs I get are literally nothing like the song. It’s especially bad in the various genres of techno. Recently I wanted a way to find acid techno, but like more acid, but there’s no words to describe that that will lead me to the music I’m looking for. Language sucks sometimes.

I don’t think anyone would let me use my skills as collateral to take out a big ass loan to buy some new skills while I rent out my skills for others to use while I sit on my ass getting richer just because I own my own skills.

Those are usually hard corn, so it would probably taste pretty starchy once ground into cornmeal. Now that I think about it that would probably be a yummy cornbread, like a less sweet cornbread. They may be able to be popped to make popcorn, but in my experience the colorful corns make pretty bad popcorn. The taste is good but there’s a lot more hull relative to the starch compared to yellow or white popcorn, which makes them more tough and less satisfying to chew, at least to me.
