@shwell @KimSJ I did it, and the vaccination for the normal population started on 18/01/2021 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccination_in_the_United_Kingdom) It is exactly at the peak, before the numbers started to go down. That means they had nothing to do with the previous increase in cases (how could they have caused something happening one or two weeks before being rolled up?!). But they may be linked to the decrease in cases after and during the rollout. If you see a graph and think something happening at a spike is what caused it, then you really don't understand how cause and effect work.

@simoncozens @pdcawley Except your metaphor was the good old mantra of AI enthusiasts repeating how programmers job will have to change from just writing code to be an architect because AI is inevitable. The job was never to just write code to begin with. While you may not have explicitly encouraged AI use, you are repeating AI propaganda.

@simoncozens @pdcawley No, the first part was correcting your metaphor. Videographers job was never to point the camera without purpose. As the programmers job was never to just write code. The only industry influenced was one that was producing a concurrent product.

@simoncozens @pdcawley And the other problem is that it is only going to increase the profit of the already rich, increasing an already big divide, without helping the poor in any way apart from allowing them to maybe make some new personal app. The governments are then going to use it as a tool for war and surveillance. You are encouraging people to embrace a tool clearly designed for enslaving its users. Forcing them to use a paying service, controlled by very few companies who have shown no respect for rules, laws or moral. Once you bought a camcorder you could do anything with it, OpenAI or Anthropic can change their rules at any time and then you are screwed.

@simoncozens @pdcawley That’s just a bad metaphor. There were a lot of other technologies that attacked established job but camcorders weren’t one of them. Those jobs have basically remained the same, only moving from analog to digital. The only affected jobs were related to the actual film, so companies like Kodak certainly saw a significant decrease in their profits. To survive they had to do a partnership with the filmmakers unions with a promise to continue to make analog movies. But the problem with AI is not that the quality is not good enough, it is its economical, ethical and environmental impact that is the issue. It is the amount of spam, the amount of stealing, the amount of energy required, the amount of economic speculation, the amount of money that is given to it instead of basically everything else based on pure faith…
