Nextdoor also works for buying and selling junk, but it's basically as terrible as Facebook at this point. Nearly every post is full up with brunchlords and Karens.

As long as you continue to play with their games they’ll continue to never improve.

Look man, the American electorate did what you wanted and didn’t vote for Harris. Things looking better? Things improving?

It’s not game theory when you see the two parties as the same side of the same coin which is what people like you fail to realize.

Same side of the same coin? That is…not the expression.

I’m pretty sure Trump could actually nuke Iran and you’d still be on here talking about how Harris would’ve been bad…exactly how I was saying in my first response.

There’s a time to vote for an alternative in the US system. That time is during the primary. If you actually gave a shit you’d be advocating for ranked choice, a change to the funding system of elections, or both. But nope, you’re just another one of Trump’s useful idiots.

I agree that it's a dumb strategy, but given the choice it's obvious that Harris was better qualified, less evil, and would not actively work to make your life worse. It's just that the average American voter is a window licker / paste eater so they voted for the other guy.

Not in this voting system there isn't. I don't know why online third party cranks are so fucking abysmal at game theory. It's blatantly obvious that only two outcomes are possible on general election day but you lot think you can manifest third party viability through shit posting.

They lock essential things (e.g. food, water, shelter, medical services, etc.) behind a paywall because they know it is not true that people do not always---or even usually---want money. But people do need essentials to live, and if they're the only ones who can give you money to get those, then they can order you to do what *they* want instead.

It seems clear to me that cloud LLMs have the same scaling problems and demand concerns that cloud gaming did. Oh well, maybe regular people will have to still run software locally after all. 🤷

I thought part of the point was to have a website work more as an application: one update to a piece of information results in that information being near instantly updated across the site. Then I looked into the angular stuff the UI people were working on and yeah… something like 10 (costly) requests for the same exact fucking JSON. They were talking about doing caching on the frontend to optimize it. What are we even doing?!

Totally agree. When someone sends me some AI slop about a topic I have knowledge – which I’ve had this happen to me recently during a debug session – and asks me to read it, I think to myself “this person does not respect me, otherwise they wouldn’t be telling me to read stuff that may or may not be accurate that they themselves never read.”

Even with little usage it was fairly obvious to me that the probability that an LLM will output at least one very strange response over time approaches 100%. By themselves, they’re just sophisticated chatbots and only stream out some characters or binary in response to a prompt. Those working in agentic AI frameworks with things like “MCP Servers” provide these things with “tools” that enable them to do things like execute shell commands and go through your inbox the same as if it were chatting with a person or another bot: with the same prompt and response paradigm. That’s where it seems extremely obvious to me that the proper approach is to code these tools – which in any sane framework are built using regular code – with the governance in place to prevent these things from doing bullshit like this. The LLM is formatting your computer or deleting your inbox because some dumb fuck thought it was a great idea to code up tools that hand a chatbot a root-capable shell or complete access to your email system instead of the doing the obviously safer thing and coding the tools with the governance or safety in them so the chatbot going haywire isn’t any kind of emergency at all. This is the 2026 equivalent of running Windows XP with its abundance of open ports in its default configuration on the Internet by running a cable modem Ethernet into the computer with no router or firewall in between to protect it.

I’m really enjoying the headlines some journalists are finally starting to write. I don’t think we’ve fully moved on from access based, deferential journalism, but there are at least a lot of news sources finally starting to publish things with headlines and content that aren’t from the PR department of the covered news item.

They should make a new chatbot called “healthy” that gives you pointers about how vaccines cause autism or tell you to enhance your immunity by swimming in super fund rivers and eating rotting, severed whale heads. Just kidding, they should all go fuck themselves.
