One amazing thing about late pregnancy and engaging with spaces for pregnant people is how they are built around accessibility as a starting point; my needs as a person who can't move good are anticipated and expected. I wish more spaces were like this.

The wild thing is that my current visible physical disability feels like it's read as "virtuous" in a way that other kinds of disability aren't. It gets really icky really fast.

Late to TeXneCON 2024 (thanks @&*^%# Boston public transit) and we’re starting out with James Mickens’ keynote with provocations on teaching ethics in CS: privileged students do not necessarily have an inherent care for the experiences of others, and we need to build that into our teaching. He argues that his lectures go better when everyone in the audience feels like they can win the “harm lottery”

Cat's out of the bag: Twitch is replacing its (paid) expert safety advisory council with (probably unpaid) streamer ambassador program. This is also a year after Twitch laid off "50 employees responsible for monitoring abusive, illegal or harmful behavior" including 15% of T&S.
