Brb updating our ansible roles to switch Ubuntu 26.04 to GNU coreutils and traditional sudo https://corrode.dev/blog/bugs-rust-wont-catch/#fr-c-handles-1 (I'm not particularly worried because of the CVEs or because of more potential vulnerabilities lurking in the code, they'll eventually find and fix them, but reaching full, 100% bug-for-bug-output-line-for-output-line compatibility with GNU coreutils is a different story and staying with uutils feels just too risky)

The reactions of a lot of people to any mention of the use of LLM/AI have stopped bordering and completely crossed into full-blown derangement. And I'm saying this as a person who doesn't even read the AI summaries Google doesn't allow me to disable, let alone use Copilot or Claude or ChatGPT or any other service out there

@kde if you're already using BTRFS why don't you manage /etc using bind-mounted writable snapshots and work on the real paths during upgrades? That would ensure there's a separate version of /etc for every version of the OS, that they can't interfere with each other and they're easily recoverable

@Fooker @lproven also what does systemd have to to with this? iproute2 is developed by different people and predates it by a decade

@Fooker @lproven first things that come to mind are network namespaces, policy-based routing, VRFs, tunnels, QoS... and then all the subcommands have a similar syntax which follows the same principles everywhere instead of each one going its own way (like it was with ifconfig, vconfig, brctl, arp and so on) and there are a lot of quality-of-life improvements everywhere (for example I love how you can just copy a line of the output of 'ip r l' and use it as it is with 'ip r d')

@lproven I trained myself to use ip and its subcommands years ago because they give you access to all the cool networking stuff you can do with linux that people stuck with ifconfig probably don't even know exists... but ss for netstat, that one I truly can't force myself to use
