If I keep this up I'm gonna be spending more time this week building analysis dashboards for my running metrics than actually running.

As I have long said, Ed Zitron either doesn’t know what he’s talking about or doesn’t care about accuracy. Lots to be concerned about with the AI boom, but Zitron is not a source of good analysis! https://bsky.app/profile/nathantankus.bsky.social/post/3ms5qxtljac2y

Whoah. An innocent man went to jail and a guilty man went free because the cops made a typo. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/07/police-missed-one-underscore-and-sent-the-wrong-man-to-prison/

When the first step goes wrong, bad results follow.

In 100 years history textbooks are going to have to have explainers for how a silly internet meme about a cute dog turned into an acronym for the fascist takeover of the administrative state. “Timmy, where did ‘DOGE’ come from?” “Uh Mr Stewart it was a Shiba Inu that the worlds richest man liked?”

This is the point I've been making about vibe-coding: AI tools can enable small teams or singletons to do more and, possibly, actually help flatten the resource/impact disparity in some fields. https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-02174-4#:~:text=Ni%20suspects%20that%20rather%20than%20dying%20out%2C%20small%2Dteam%20science%20will%20stabilize.%20It%20might%20even%20see%20a%20resurgence%20as%20artificial%2Dintelligence%20tools%20become%20more%20sophisticated%20and%20accessible%2C%20she%20adds

I think this is indeed the right take, but it’s interesting that Nvidia’s incentives are so different here (sell chips to China!), and Jensen Huang seems to have Trump’s ear… https://bsky.app/profile/codendahl.bsky.social/post/3mr5ty6w24k2l

I recently made a e2ee location-sharing app which I wanted, fills an unfilled niche, and I never would have had the time to build if I had to write all the annoying mobile app UX code by hand. The extent to which coding assistants can boost open source is underappreciated, vibe-coded slop aside.

I have mixed feelings on this. Clearly there's a lot of vibe-coded crap. At the same time, coding assistants have vastly lowered the cost of making niche or bespoke apps in a way that I think does not analogize to books. (Who wants to read any book written by AI?) https://bsky.app/profile/kashhill.bsky.social/post/3mr5wqlma5k2q

The one thing I will say is that Trump is truly a genius at petty corruption. It’s like a weird gift he has. Like he seems like a total dipshit, but then when it comes to making money unethically he’s the Michael Jordan of the field. https://www.ft.com/content/32db576f-4f53-47d2-b00c-2ad4e906952c

What's neat about the rise of such powerful openweight models is that it gives those of us who are privacy paranoids the opportunity to move to privacy-centric services (like https://confer.to and https://tinfoil.sh) https://www.ft.com/content/c6ecd8ce-c441-4d7c-aea6-fae3e28fb6ff?syn-25a6b1a6=1

@lcamtuf@infosec.exchange I, uh, I wear a Garmin and a Fitbit to bed and I check both of those and also manually test my HRV every morning. I’m open to the prospect that this has gotten slightly out of hand. It did start out as a question of “can I optimize my running training intensity today” but there’s something to be said for just going by how you feel.

This YouGov poll showing 27% of Americans believe the first President of the US was named “Jesus H. Christ” is surprising but not that surprising.
