@CppGuy@infosec.space @jackeric@beige.party @fesshole@mastodon.social I have no idea what it would have cost. They filed their stuff late (which I grassed to the judge) and brought the wrong evidence (ditto) so they were told straight up that they wouldn't be able to claim their costs from me even if they won. But the paperwork they did post wasn't PoFA-compliant so it was thrown out. For some reason their representative didn't fancy a chat afterwards 🤷🏻‍♂️ and I had somewhere more important to be so I just cut and run as soon as possible.

@CppGuy@infosec.space @jackeric@beige.party @fesshole@mastodon.social Yip. I've had run-ins with both Parking Eye (who just....stopped corresponding) and VCS (who actually bothered to take me to court and lost on the grounds of not knowing their own paperwork and bringing an evidence pack full of pictures of a completely different car/location). It's my biggest peeve when people go "it's a private invoice, just ignore it" because at least some of these companies are litigious and I've got a court verdict to prove it.

@jackeric@beige.party @fesshole@mastodon.social if only it was the 1990s. Nowadays it's just an automatic letter in the post with an attempted invoice for a place you may have left on time, or potentially never even been. Private parking companies are all scummy chancing cunts and should never have been allowed to form, nor legitimised by the DVLA and the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

@jwz@mastodon.social sorry, I still disagree that the question as originally framed on Mastodon was "very specific". "Specific" would have included that you know Cloudfront is an answer but you can't because this, and you don't want to do anything that takes TLS termination out of your control, and you definitely do need this to be "self-maintaining" instead of managing entries in Security Groups, and you're not interested in Cloudflare because it's not an AWS solution, etc. Way too much nuance for a toot.

@jwz@mastodon.social again, fair. But (IMO at least) people aren't behaving like that out of malice or bad faith, they're behaving because they see an X/Y problem where you've explained the solution you want rather than the problem you're solving, and since the solution you want doesn't exist they should offer potential solutions that do. For me at least it's a hangover from my early days in tech support where I was expected to find the right answer OR do whatever BS the users dreamed. Because "no" won't fly.

@jwz@mastodon.social I get that, but this question was not actually that specific about your use case and your clarifications were "I want an AWS answer". The AWS answers are Cloudfront (hard no for you), WAF (needs ALB, which means Amazon terminate TLS for you, hard no for you), Security Groups (hard to manage). Your self-imposed parameters about how you specifically want to use AWS and break from "the norm" doesn't leave anything AWS-native on the table, really, so there are no answers.

@jwz@mastodon.social OK, I phrased that badly. But people are trying to answer in the AWS way of e.g. "add Cloudfront", and now you appear to be getting frustrated because you already know you don't want to use Cloudfront, for valid reasons. All I'm trying to say is that if people know those constraints you might get a better quality of answer here. Although I still don't think it exists in the way you'd like it to because I still don't think this is really an AWS question with those contraints.

@jwz@mastodon.social @randomwizard@social.vivaldi.net I'm not convinced there are any AWS answers, since it doesn't really sound like you're using any AWS features? What you appear to have is a bog standard VPS that happens to be running on an AWS hypervisor. In which case your options are limited to what you would use on any other VPS, effectively iptables? Since the goalposts keep moving, maybe you could expand your blog post with all your other constraints too?

I understand those who didn't have the opportunity and are now able to express their desire to be out. But who on the original Remain side is looking at how things have gone for the last 10 years and said "yes, this is all great actually, more of this please"? Nuts.

@256 they’re talking about IBM hard drives, so all high security facilities do. There was no faster way to yeet 75GB of data into oblivion than store it on one of those from that period. DBAN? Ain’t nobody got time for that, just let your IBM Deathstar render it inaccessible in an instant. Yes, I’m bitter, what of it? Younger me did not give backups the respect they deserve.

@Ragashingo @dalias that's what they're taking away, as I understand it. So I think it's the case _now_, it will shortly _not_ be the case. So if you're lucky, you can now get the same thing from a third-party seller. If you're mid-lucky, you can get something passing itself off as the same listing from a third-party scammer. If you're unlucky, your address gets leaked to a third-party stalker. Clearly I wasn't the only person who read that mail this morning and thought "oh no".
