Weirder Admin

Passing along a quick note for anyone using the weirder.earth web UI:

The problem with the images is a problem with the *web UI*, not any of the rest of the instance. (Specifically, we believe our content security policy is not making it into the Docker container.)

If you have some other client you can use, you might want to switch for that while we continue debugging.

Hi all - we'd like community feedback about an experimental instance https://theforkiverse.com/about. We've heard some concerns about its use of AI for moderation and lack of long-term plans. Are Weirder Earth folks comfortable being federated with that instance? We welcome your input - thank you!

After credible accusations of abuse against the instance owner, Matthew Garrett, weirder.earth mods have suspended nondeterministic.computer

After the update, a lot of people have had intermittent issues with images not loading from jortage. Currently we're working around this issue by disabling some caching – let us know if it persists.

Edit: You may need to clear cache – or Ctrl+Shift+R for a reload without caching – to get the effect.

After some recent inter-mod conflict, we have lost both mods involved. This reveals to us that we lack a robust way of mediating internal conflicts and a safe way of working towards resolutions. We hope to find a way to change that and support our mod community better as we go forward.

Mod burnout, offline life events, and the slow responses they cause have played a part in this too. The mod team currently is compostablespork and sophiejane with several advisory mods, prioritizing BIPOC moderation. We recognize this is too few (very busy) folks to do the work well and equitably and we definitely still welcome more volunteer mods. Mods need community for mutual support and collective decision-making. And we're trying to build the community to do this better.

attention weirder.earthlings! we will be attempting to do server updates on sunday, october 19th, about two days from now. a server snapshot will be taken beforehand to backup all server data. there may be downtime from anywhere between a few hours to a day or two, it's hard to predict.

our backup account is @weirderadmin@rage.love and we'll use that to post status updates and other info as needed.
