Ultimately selfishness is the elephant standing in the way of our species success.
It’s two of us saying it. This is what will keep us at the bottom of the Kardashev scale.
Will anyone listen and not reject it out of hand? That seems to be the habit. Any mention of selfishness seems to make people uncomfortable because everyone has self-interest, but there’s a difference between considering your own interest in the larger context of others’ interest and not giving a damn about that context at all.
Conservatives fall in that latter bracket. If they consider the interests of others at all, it’s only those that they personally value (tribalism). NONE of them are egalitarian, not one. Conservatism is all about the -isms: tribalism, racism, fascism. All arise from selfishness.
Selfishness and its social cousin tribalism will yet be the death of us all.

As I've been saying for a while now, the core motivation for conservatives and their entire ideology is no more complex than malignant selfishness.
That is why MAGA idolizes Trump, because they all share that selfish motive, and selfishness is a literal crime against egalitarian society. Can you imagine how well ant colonies would function if any colony members were selfish? Those colonies would perish (and that is why there's no selfish ants).
Even if we don't or can't make selfishness a legal crime, we need to put it back in the pre-Trump cage that was previously its home and put an end to the Paradox of Tolerance.
