You do need to worry about whether or not your phone is locked to a specific carrier and if its the carrier you want to use the phone with. or, if its a phone you want to bring to another network, you have to figure our if you need to argue with your current carrier to get it unlocked. To piggyback off this, Windows is also "harder" than Android. You need to reinstall Windows due to an update fuckup? You tried building your own PC? Well, you either fork.over $120 for an installation media, or you have to create your own, then learn how to boot into the BIOS to boot from that media, then you need to scour the internet for not only your Nvidia driver, but your audio driver, WiFi driver, integrated graphics driver (if you have and want to use an IGPU) and possibly motherboard drivers if your mobo has some odd implementation that requires a driver for USB 3.1 to work properly. None of these operating systems are "harder" than another. You are just used to one over the other. You don't use your automatic transmission car skills trying to drive a manual transmission, unless your goal is to crash and burn.

As another commenter said, seedvault is a huge part of it. That, and when I am taking video to upload somewhere, it would take forever to transfer a 20-120 minute 4k file. And file transfer isnt the only reason. Android 16/17 are bringing desktop docking features, and thats s feature I’ve wanted on phones since Android 8. I have a device with DP out now, and as someone who owns a dock its a game changer for events where I need to display to something fast. I can’t wait for it to be a fully fleshed out DE. (Not to mention the fact that Chromecast is a shitty format that my is doesnt even support)

Yeah I totally hear you on the time thing. I think the stuff on Apple Photos should be relatively easy to import to immich and ente just based on a quick skimming of the guides. But like you said, having to find the time is understandable.
