A hobbyist with a metal detector stumbled on a big find in a forest in northern Poland. He discovered a well-preserved Bronze Age sword. It had apparently been standing upright in the ground for nearly 2,700 years. Experts said it dated to between 900 -700 BC. https://notesfrompoland.com/2026/06/19/detectorist-finds-2700-year-old-bronze-age-sword-in-poland/

Found in the Ljubljana Marshes in Slovenia, this incredible artifact dates back over 5,100 years. The wheel itself is made of ash wood, paired with a 124-centimeter oak axle. The artifact’s exceptional condition is attributed to the oxygen-poor, waterlogged environment of the Ljubljana Marshes peat bog, which prevented the wood from decaying over the millennia. Photo credit Matevž Paternoster / MGML. https://mgml.si/en/city-museum/exhibitions/211/the-wheel-5200-years/

A late Roman burial, discovered at the former Essex County Hospital site in Colchester, will be on public display.

The high-status woman was buried in a decorated lead coffin accompanied by jet hairpins, a group of rare glass flasks, and other grave goods. Residue analysis has identified frankincense and gypsum within the coffin, and exotic resins in one of the glass vessels.

This magnificent mosaic, with intricate geometric and figural designs crafted from thousands of small stone tesserae, was found during the construction of the Antakya Museum Hotel in Türkiye.

Measuring 9,000 square feet, it is the largest intact mosaic ever excavated.
The mosaic once graced the floor of a large public building in ancient Antioch.
Two earthquakes (526 AD and 528 AD) rippled the mosaic causing the fluctuations in the floor.
