Actually, while we’ll likely never know for certain, it’s quite debatable for the first phase, and we’re reasonably certain it wasn’t used for the second phase.

There’s no “yes” or “no” to this question; even the historians collectively don’t know. (Although if “built by slaves” is implying exclusively or near-exclusively, that’s definitively wrong.)

Reminding people that this method DOES IN FACT WORK, when the article heavily suggests it is the method, not the people performing the method, that is the problem seems valuable to me. Oh, so you just don’t know or care what a “TL;DR” is. Very cool. (It’s a summary, by the way.) I’ve provided an open-access article highlighting the accomplishments (I’m not saying that snarkily like in scare quotes) of China’s GGW initiative.

a error message popped up telling that “ on Ukraine” has been decided as the only allowed form.

That’s… interesting and concerning. I unfortunately lack the knowledge to find how that rule was implemented or how it slots into the Russian Wikipedia’s policies. Keep in mind in that NPOV article that “Wikipedia” is shorthand for “the English Wikipedia” following the first sentence, so huge portions of that only inherently apply to English (even if there’s probably a lot of overlap with others). There really are major languages I basically never visit, and Russian is one of them – only very occasionally for cross-linking a Russian topic we lack an article about. I’m totally inept about what goes on there.

I should’ve clarified “the English Wikipedia”, since I can’t speak for all the languages (although all the other ones I’ve regularly visited have been fine). The English Wikipedia sets its own policies and guidelines, and the other languages are free to choose their policies and guidelines (within the bounds of the WMF). Ours on neutrality is as follows:

You know what? Fuck off. You don't know this cop; you don't know that there's not a black man handcuffed under that table having the life extinguished from him while the cop plans how best to beat his children when he gets home. And so what if he *isn't* extrajudicially murdering a black man in that image? You don't know how many died by his hand that day before he sat down on his lunch break. Are cops not humans who deserve breaks now? "Defund the police" because they stopped for a few minutes to have a bite? They're just supposed to be perfect? Bumblebees are pretty gentle, and whereas I used to be extremely scared of bees (and especially bumblebees because of their size), I find them adorable to observe up-close now that I’ve gotten over my fear. However, the question I would ask regarding petting is: why? When I pet a household dog or a cat, it’s ideally because I think it comforts them, and at worst (if they’re mildly annoyed and I don’t realize), it’s never going to harm them. For the bee, though, it’s probably strictly uncomfortable for them to have a being 50,000 times their size come up and start putting pressure on them. (Bumblebees can distinguish noxious stimuli, but they do still respond somewhat to regular tactile stimulation; see p.3.) Their wings and legs are fragile, and it’s not like they can’t be accidentally provoked into stinging you. If they’re just minding their own business, it’s really best to leave them alone, because at best you’re annoying/not comforting them, and at worst you’re physically harming them. TL;DR: Bumblebees are really cool, but just treat them like you’d treat other wild animals that don’t want to be touched; that you can get so close to them and watch is already a blessing.

Has anyone proven that subway tomatoes, lettuce, etc. are actually nutritionally worse than supermarket equivalents?

If you’re looking toward iceberg lettuce for any kind of nutritional value (which teeeechnically it has) to the extent you’d be worried about a comparison between Subway and grocery, god help you, and I hope either the famine or your sea voyage is over soon.

Is that a common thing? I’ve almost never driven past a Costco station where there wasn’t a pump available (usually several). I know the part about “30 minutes” is hyperbole, but I don’t think a bunch of cars congesting Costco stations instead of spreading out to other ones is an actual problem that’s regularly happening in reality.

“There’s more than a 50% chance that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were sexually molested by multiple (you decided to pluralize it; not me) Epstein affiliates in Hollywood” is a massive stretch that you present zero evidence for and confidently assert. It’s becoming increasingly clear with your responses that you genuinely have a problem.

Did I make you uncomfortable with consuming the lives of the Olsen twins like a cheap and disposable drug?

Dude holy shit, seek help. I have never once in my life given an iota of a shit about the Olsen twins or anything they’ve been involved with. I might’ve seen one episode of Full House by coincidence, and I played an nth-hand copy of Mary-Kate and Ashley: Sweet 16 – Licensed to Drive for the PS2 two decades after its release (when the twins were nearly 40 and the publisher and developer had been defunct for years) for about 30 minutes as a gag. This is the first time I can remember seeing a picture of the Olsen twins in years, and I only responded to your comment because it’s so insane (I genuinely knew so little that I assumed I’d completely missed out on a scandal and tried in good faith to find out what happened).

Your willingness to assume anything without evidence as long as it feels correct to you is staggering.

Yeah, no, I totally agree that sexualization by the public when they were underage (even as adults) probably took a psychological toll, as it probably does on a lot of teen stars (and IIRC it was quite bad with Mary-Kate & Ashley). That is a *completely* different statement from "they were most likely molested by some of Epstein's Hollywood buddies".

That's a seriously bold claim that you don't bother to support at all and just take as common knowledge. After doing a few minutes of searching: what the absolute fuck are you even talking about? Genuinely the most I can find are a small handful of trashy outlets like *The Sun* (at the *least* trashy) talking about a baseless Twitter accusation against Bob Saget after his death and then – even as trashy as they are – unanimously arriving at the conclusion that Saget unequivocally did nothing to them. (To that end, I can't even find anything about Saget having ever interacted with Epstein, so there's a baseless, nonsense Twitter accusation – only discussed by the trashiest outlets who have every incentive to imply that it's true for clicks but instead deny it completely – about a man with no connection to Epstein.) No names, no sources (probably because there's jack shit), no anything, so what exactly the fuck are you basing "most likely" on?

I’m happy that the US is adopting metric.

I don’t know if you’re just not from the US, but this dual labeling of groceries has been ongoing for decades. The US formally began transitioning to metric during the 1970s and has had plenty of dual uses ever since; it got cut short due to a mix of public apathy and active public disapproval, and when it was on its last legs, Reagan axed the metrification board early in his first term (not a defense, but it was seriously barely doing anything by that time because of public unwillingness to change). Rulers have inches and centimeters; there are imperial and metric tools; kids do learn metric in schools (usually in the context of a science class); etc. You aren’t expected to know metric as an average functioning adult, but it’s everywhere and useful to know in US society – usually just kind of in the background like here.

TL;DR: “Is adopting” said in 2026 in response to soda labels is a steep misunderstanding of metrification in the US.

You can download Artix Linux 2026.04 right now Why would anybody? It’s actively advertising that it’s using a replacement for X11 created by a MAGA, anti-vaxx dipshit whose claim to ultra-niche fame was making a fucking mess of Xorg by recklessly churning out PRs, accordingly getting barred from contributing, and throwing a bitch fit and spinning his removal into some incoherent Red Hat conspiracy theory. Here’s the raw level of competence you can expect when you trust XLibre’s developer to reimplement a decades-old mountain of low-level spaghetti. (For anybody who’s never written C/C++, this is something you would – generously – learn in the first half-hour of learning the language. Making a typo is semi-understandable. Being confused when confronted by it and having it directly explained to you is fucking insane given the nature of the project.)

This is what a competent encyclopedic treatment of algebra looks like by comparison. The other algebra article fucks up from the jump, because the goal of an encyclopedic treatment of algebra is not to teach someone the mechanics of solving a handful of elementary algebra problems (you can as a small aid, but making it nearly the entire article is failing the assignment completely). It’s to cover what algebra is, its various subfields, its history, its applications, its relationships to other parts of math, etc. Covering algebra encyclopedically by offering a mediocre Algebra I tutorial is like covering internal combustion engines encyclopedically by making the entire article a short guide on how to change the oil in your car; it’s asinine.

“Junk food as a reward” is something every expert I’ve ever heard talk about it says is a terrible idea. More generally, “Food as a reward” undermines healthy eating. That brushes up against “well then when should I eat junk food? never?”, and that’s something I can’t tell you. The most balanced mindset might be to treat it like many treat alcohol – both poison to your body – and eat something junky occasionally when you’re out with friends or just want to relax one night. But tying it into “I earned this” is detrimental psychologically, even if it feels natural to gate junk food behind effort so you (in theory, rarely in practice) don’t overconsume.

people are more likely to pick a breed with a reputation for being aggressive if the dog acted aggressive. That’s why I pointed out that 70% knew the dog, because otherwise I’d agree. People can inadvertently imagine a lot of details recalling when they were attacked. Most of those 70% likely aren’t going to be changing their minds about what a dog they already know is because the dog bit them. “Now that I think about it, my neighbor’s Saint Bernard is strangely pit-like…”
