I love the creative process.

The photograph/avatar is of an ostrich looking directly at the camera. It is looking impish mainly because it had just tried to pull my wedding ring off my finger and failed. I got the feeling it wanted a second try.

@peachfront A lot of our indigenous plants have made their way across the world. Geraniums, Ixia and friesia to name but a few, which is what happens when you live in the smallest biome in the world (Fynbos) with the highest endemic plant count in the world. To put that in perspective there are more unique species of plants on Cape Town's Table Mountain chain (40 km long) than there are in the whole of the UK.

@peachfront Great photo! But oh my! A Leonotis! It is indigenous to Southern Africa and the local bird that drinks the nectar with a long curved bill is the Sunbird. The local name for the leonotis is Wille Dagga which roughly translates as Wild Cannabis. The San (the First People) used to dry the petals and smoke them for a mild hallucinogenic effect but it was rapidly supplanted by real cannabis when it arrived from up north.

@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe I am fortunate in that I write fiction and am from a multilingual country where we mix and match our languages to create interesting words which means I can salt my stories with local words like gogga (insect), larnie (posh) and ou toppie (old man).

@Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net I like your browser It is default across all my devices However I hate it when initiating a search and being prompted to type in random letters and numbers. Because I am lazy this result in me saying something like "Ah f*** it" and using duckduckgo with the f*** word on the end of the search phrase which discourages AI nicely. And yes I do understand your reasons but as I said, I am lazy.
