@Anne_Delong@musician.social I did a bit of poking around, and yes it looks like systems on the market have anti-islanding. The other concern was that it would feed back into the grid, but that would only happen if your home was consuming less than the panel was producing, which would require probably more panels than anyone has room for. (For one thing, not all meters can tell which direction power is flowing, so you'd be getting charged for the power you're feeding back to the grid). I also wouldn't want to stuff more than a few hundred watts back into a branch circuit, so you don't want people going nuts with these things.

@Anne_Delong@musician.social I know a little bit because we've been running grid-tied solar under MicroFIT for 16 years. One issue is that if Hydro has to do work, and they have to shut off power (or if it's during a weather outage), it's a hazard to them if some other source is feeding into that bit of the network.

@Dianora And I've had a BCC and several keratoses - the results of growing up in an era when no one worried about it. All treated and clear, but a warning not to take things for granted.

@stephanie@ottawa.place Definitely disrupted my last night's sleep - took forever to get back to sleep and even then I kept waking up. Seriously, if I've got DND set, I'm probably not in a situation where I'm going to rush outside on the off chance that particular car is driving by at that exact moment.

@stephanie@ottawa.place I recall similar points being made when they wanted to build the new Civic Hospital on a piece of the Experimental Farm - no, there's history going back generations in those plots; you can't just resume the same research somewhere else.

@human3500@ottawa.place That's what we get for adopting Gallic plurals into a language with Germanic possessives. Except some of the Germanic plurals survived.
