When a woman proudly announces that she owns her own home, I find it to be insulting and humiliating and naive. Creating the conditions of safety necessary for a complex society requires unbelievable amounts of violence. Taming the wilderness, fighting other tribes, policing. Men do almost all of this. Producing the raw materials necessary - through mining and smelting and logging - requires unbelievably healthy, hearty and strong people. Again, men. Maintaining infrastructure - garbage collection, road building, construction, trade services, transportation - again, almost all men. The inventions of Modernity are almost all men’s work. Dozens or hundreds of pages of them, nearly all men (and White Christian men at that.) Out of these advances, (((we))) have decided to grant women the privilege of engaging in the portion of the economy that they are able to; essentially, air conditioning jobs. We have done so by turning most things an individual man provides into a public good through direct taxation and legislative redistribution. Yes, the 150k boss woman is working and making something of some value to someone. But she is standing on top of a pyramid of oppressed and forgotten men.
