They can't always be turned off and depending on what it is it can break everything for a good 30 seconds. Both steam and discord can do this. The internet in the modern world is just not made to support internet that slow. The reason I even used Reddit and use Lemmy now is other sites took ages to load in the first place, simpler works. Shit I still use bing out of habit because for a very long time it used less bandwidth to load than google, and it was *good enough*. edit: for things that actually matter i guess, work app had significant issues and the training videos i bypassed because the 480p wouldnt load.

I lived for years limited to similar speeds, you are hilariously wrong. That's 240p YouTube, most of the time. Sometimes it won't load 240. Most downloads through a browser will fail outright. You can download something, have that download saturate your entire internet and knock you offline. Anything autoplaying is aids. If someone messages you a link with a thumbnail you've just been DoSd, not DDoS because it only takes one person to kick you offline.

I pay for YouTube and they wouldn’t accept the card I pay them with for validation. So I took a photo of someone in a YouTube video and they accepted it as me and hey now I’m verified.

The selfie is 3rd party so I doubt it. I did it to my main account when it showed up on YouTube a while ago and I've had no issues. However it works is too stupid to know I'm taking a photo of a laptop screen even though it's unbelievably obvious to anyone with eyes.

Take a 'selfie' of a 4k video of a talking person, beats it. Or if you have access to a paid gen AI service I would expect a high detail AI fake to work, although it doesn't work with low detail.

I definitely buy YouTube premium, have had it for a few years. But I also use it a ton instead of Netflix or Amazon or anything else. I figure at a minimum of 50 hours a week on YouTube I should probably pay for it, even at the like $20 AUD a month or whatever it’s climbed to at this point, and creators get a % of my premium money so that supports people.
