Oh absolutely. This was exactly me for the longest time. I review retro handhelds, so I’ve had everything from the entry-level to the high power ones (like the Odin 3 Max). I thought you couldn’t get better than upscaled graphics and save states, but when I got a re-obsession semi-recently with the PSP: gardinerbryant.com/tag/psp/ …I’ve realized that native hardware just has magic to it. The handheld is slim, the design is retro futuristic in the best way (in my eyes), the jailbreak and add-ons are invaluable and the experience is just fun. I’ve just reviewed the Retroid Pocket Nova, am reviewing the Anbernic RG SP, and have a couple more on the way, but that isn’t stopping me absolutely loving WipEout on my PSPs :)

So this is my written article covering the Retroid Pocket Nova. This one might be interesting to you because as well as chatting to Retroid, I asked them to share a couple of the early design renders of the Nova with me to feature in here. They said yes, and you can see some of the differences between what they were planning, and what we got! Along with that I chatted to developers like those behind Leaf Studio, rootComputer: the Steam Curator behind Is it 4:3 (the page covering all the PC games they add to their collection, which is super apt for the Nova), and bmdhacks, a friend and dev from ARMSX2. Naturally I cover the usual things in here, but I thought these might be interesting too! Hope you enjoy it :)

A few months back I had a grand plan about buying a ton of options, going from entry level to high-end, a refurbished and done up iPod, a Zune, a feature on the PSP’s sound capabilities…but after two or three I got distracted Reviewing this was a pleasure, and reminded me why something like this little fellow is magic for music. The sound difference between FLAC on this V.S. streaming is enormous! I’m so glad you liked my artivle/review/impressions! :)

Good point, I should have been a little clearer with my wording. The hypervisor technique itself isn’t a Linux invention, and you’re right that the underlying method originated from Windows research. The Linux angle is more about how the community has been applying it: using Proton/Wine compatibility layers to run Windows games on Linux in a way that interacts differently with Denuvo’s checks. That distinction is what made it interesting from a totally Linux gaming perspective, especially given how unusual it is for Linux compatibility layers to become part of the discussion around a major DRM breakthrough. I’ll update the article wording because “Linux-based breakthrough” makes it sound like Linux created the exploit itself, which isn’t what I intended! Dodi was lovely. At the time he was literally getting married (the day before, of or after…I forget exactly which!), in Egypt which is his home. FitGirl is far funnier than I expected, we used to check in every now and then, but that has long-since ended. She’s also got an iron-clad no press rule nowdays. Empress was brilliant, I’ll fight tooth and nail on that, in the early days she was brilliant. But…that ‘front’ wasn’t put up, she was and is quite ‘unique’ in her views. There was a few others too, I found it really interesting to reach out to these names, they were all just quite surprised because few ever did!

Hi there! I’m the author. Not only have I chatted to Voices, but I did an AMA with Dodi, organized the same with FitGirl (which didn’t actually happen), and even chatted to Empress. Which…wasn’t very fun. I’ve interviewed KaOs and also the gentleman behind Ghost eShop for jailbroken Switches. This is just to say I know the scene, and I know the people. Denuvo has been almost universally cracked since the start of this year, author sounds pretty out of date to be talking as if this is a recent development. Seems there was about 20 games released this year with Denuvo. Voices has changed the scene a lot, but he can only do so much. Now he’s using A.I. to help with his process this is speeding up a ton, but he cannot possibly keep up with ‘demand’ as it were. I found four he’s done, for 2026 releases: Resident Evil Requiem (February 2026) PRAGMATA (April 2026) LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (May 2026) 007 First Light (May 2026) It certainly hasn’t been “universally cracked”. It will get quicker, but it is still an effort. One game every two weeks or so at the moment. universally cracked This is not only a stretch, it isn’t true. The fun thing is that he has cracked 2026’s build, and then their updated build, then a day one release. From a technical POV, it is super interesting to see.

A few weeks ago I wrote about taking a chance on a cheap “junk” PSP-2000 from Japan, replacing its faulty charging port, and ending up with one of the nicest handhelds I own.. One of many PSP’s I’ve bought though. Quite a few people here on Lemmy reached out afterwards asking about jailbreaking, or just sharing that they planned to buy UMDs for it. I guess this article is my answer (or maybe just yet another thinly veiled excuse to write about my favorite old handheld…the PSP) to that. Rather than another super technical wiki, I wanted to write a bit of step-by-step with just pictures of all of it. I cover installing ARK-4 custom firmware, setting up a microSD card, loading games, movies and music, a handful of homebrew recommendations. I really, really love Sony’s PSP. I think as far as industrial design language goes, you just can’t beat it. So if you’ve recently picked up a PSP, are thinking about picking one up, or have one sitting in a drawer gathering dust, I hope this helps you give it a second life! And if you don’t want to read through, then ask me here and I’m more than happy to recommend things to you.

The warning from the german team was not ignored, as far as I understood it, but just arrived too late while the newsletter team was already sending the mails. Nope, it was blocked. They asked, were told this is wrong and knew why. The reason you had it delivered in Germany is because your email preferences are set to English. They only skipped Germany by blocking the German language. They knew it was wrong, avoided the German language and set it to everyone else. Rather than hitting backspace once or twice.

Afterplay and the Push Toward a Steam for Retro Games: An Interview

I recently had to chat with Patrick, the founder of Afterplay, along with James, the platform’s Head of Emulation, to talk about one of the more interesting projects I’ve spotted lately in in the retro gaming space specifically. Afterplay’s a browser-based retro gaming platform that lets you play classic games on desktop and mobile with cloud saves, cross-device syncing, and a focus on making retro gaming accessible. More recently (and more interestingly to me), it expanded into a storefront where indie developers sell browser-playable games, which I think is an fascinating topic and angle for an article. In the interview here we talk about how Afterplay began, the technical challenges of browser-based emulation, where the idea of becoming a “Steam for retro games” came from, the new storefront, the future of the platform, and plenty more. I was just looking at a few reports for your comment in the mod-queue where you made the reference to Magda Goebbels when discussing the death of the co-founder of Ubisoft. Seems people weren’t thrilled with that! And here you slide, still just as nasty. Why share this, then? Because it is a subject I care about? Oh I’m so sorry, did I make an error then apologize for it? Gardiner, myself and occasionally a couple others write articles about things we love, or believe to be important, or care about. We’re not a organization, we’re not a major site. I don’t get paid. We don’t run ads. It literally costs money to have people read the things we write, but we write things like this because we love them. I am just explaining this because you seem to think there needs to be a reason to write an article on a topic I enjoy. Have you got some articles you have written, so you can show me how it is done? Oh, okay. So basically this was just something they shit out and published without due diligence. Kindly fuck off. And in fact consider this a warning to behave in this community. This was news to me, too! Gardiner edited it overnight (it is morning here in Australia now), because yes...I was a complete idiot and didn't realize these were in fact on Play Store. That is unforgivable because research for articles is like my thing, but I just never use Play Store, outside of being for emulation on retro handhelds I review.

Some of Android's Most Interesting Games Aren't on the Play Store

I just thought it might be fun to write up a very little article recommending three of the free and open-source games I tried and loved from F-droid! Not only do I spend a ton of time on Android systems because I review retro handhelds, but I also enjoy exploring the more unusual corners of the platform, especially when they involve open-source software and games. I’m a daily user of F-droid (and have convinced my whole family to do the same), and turning my attention to the gaming side of things seemed a fun idea for an article. For anyone who still wants to access Reddit just to browse favorite (niche) subs which won’t ever get traction here, some third-party apps still work. My favorite is cygnusx’s Slide for Reddit fork (they picked it up after it was abandoned). You can use it logger in or anonymously - without an account logged in: github.com/cygnusx-1-org/Slide ^ you can see my Slide app with the frontpage showing regular subs, and it doesn’t use the dumb new reddit algorithm which shows you posts from like a week ago. The other option is Morphe who patch the official Reddit app. It will require an account but you can change a heap of things, block everything you dislike too. The patching app does YouTube and YouTube Music or whatever they call it, but it also patches Reddit: morphe.software ^ here’s an example of some of the things you can change in a Morphe patched Reddit’s settings Also sorry for the pictures, I wrote and uploaded this while steaming milk for my coffee!

Totally funded by Epic. Lake tried for over a decade to get anyone to want to publish it, it no one was interested. Not only did Epic put the money up, they had a clause of profits over a certain amount going only to Remedy. It is a fact. We’d never have Alan Wake 2 without Epic picking up the bill!
