Relevant paragraph:

PQC readiness “is mostly actuarial/risk management—even if the chance of building a CRQC by, say, 2030 is very low (say 5 percent), the downside risk is huge,” he explained. “Combine that with very long transition engineering times, and you should have started already.”

Also, relevant paragraph from the wiki page for integer factorization records:

The largest number reliably factored by Shor’s algorithm, rather than some other quantum method, is 21 which was factored in 2012.[26][27] The number 15 had previously been factored by several labs and subsequent attempts to factorise 35 failed.[27

And a relevant excerpt from this study looking at “factored” primes above 21

Large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of implementing Shor’s algorithm are not yet available, preventing relevant benchmarking experiments. Recently, several authors have attempted quantum factorizations via reductions to SAT or similar NP-hard problems. While this approach may shed light on algorithmic approaches for quantum solutions to NP-hard problems, in this paper we study and question its practicality. We find no evidence that this is a viable path toward factoring large numbers, even for scalable fault-tolerant quantum computers, as well as for various quantum annealing or other special purpose quantum hardware.

I’ll be concerned when we start seeing primes being factored when they’re not using compiled Shor algorithm primes. So far, most of the big “factorization records” cheat and use primes with only the LSBs differing, and aren’t remotely close to anything used in a real RSA prime. There was a good discussion of it on Security Now episode 1034 for those who are interested.

It could also just be that your parents are polyamorous and don't know how to have that conversation with you. I have friends who have lots of short and long term partners that aren't in the business world at all, they're just poly. And honestly, poly is nice cuz you can get your needs met even if your primary partner isn't into that.

I remember doing this with the text based captchas a decade or so ago. For a while it was pretty obvious which word was the control word and which was the one you were being data mined for, so it was always fun to throw a swear or something in there for the lulz to poison the data.

My wife (who has DOCUMENTED NUT ALLERGIES and told them about it) was put into the bakery and expected to pull all the frozen stuff to thaw before being baked. Anyone see an issue with putting a worker with a nut allergy in the bakery? Because they sure as fuck didn't. They were also very surprised when she no call/no showed to quit after they kept ignoring her complaints and expected her to do the work of 3 people and to train register people when she needed help to get shit done.

Prowlarr and nzbget are the two containers I run that handle actually downloading things, and sonarr/radarr for automatic media management. For usenet, you need to get a provider and an indexer, and those can be gotten for just a couple bucks a month. Honestly, well worth the expense.

Wouldn’t he only be lazy if he’s not doing anything else more productive instead? Of course not. It’s rather easy to see how one can choose to be lazy and not do hard work while being “productive” doing bs tasks. He gets payed to do a specific job, Again, stop thinking I’m calling the dev lazy, you’re completely missing my point. and does it the best way possible given the constraints. I don’t see how you find lazyness in that. This is the laziness. The constraints imposed by management to get new features out the door at the expense of making their existing features work better is a hallmark of the current development era. I’m not even going to respond to the last bit because it’s entirely irrelevant to (and completely misunderstands) the point I’m making.

Normal people lived in Nazi Germany too.

Also, there’s no real opposition to what their military is doing according to Pew Research .

A new Pew Research Center survey finds that 39% of Israelis say Israel’s military response against Hamas in Gaza has been about right, while “34% say it has not gone far enough and 19% think it has gone too far.

According to the survey, conducted in March and early April, roughly two-thirds of Israelis are also confident that Israel will either probably (27%) or definitely (40%) achieve its goals in the war against Hamas. Still, majorities of Israeli adults are worried about aspects of the ongoing war:

61% say they are extremely or very concerned about the war expanding into other countries in the region. 68% say they are extremely or very concerned about the war going on for a long time. When it comes to what should happen after the war, there is less consensus. A 40% plurality of Israelis think Israel should govern the Gaza Strip. Smaller shares think Gazans should decide who governs (14%) or would like to see a Palestinian Authority national unity government either with (6%) or without (12%) President Mahmoud Abbas (also known as Abu Mazen) in leadership.

Separately, 26% of Israelis think a way can be found for Israel and an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully with each other – down from 35% who said the same last year, prior to the war, and about half as many as took that position when the question was first asked in 2013.

Vastly more Israelis care about the war expanding than they do the atrocities that are being committed in their name. Hell, they have less faith now that this will not exterminate Gaza than they did last year. Even Israelis know what’s coming, the majority just don’t care.

Maybe stop defending the country where 3/4 of the population thinks the current state of Gaza is ok or not going far enough.

Sounds like the middleman will get cut once the person paying for the work to be done realizes that they don’t have to pay a person for the work to get done Sounds like someone doesn’t understand how much work goes into getting a usable work product out of AI output. Fuck, I can’t even get the stupid fucking things to not make up shit constantly, and have to police the output to make sure it doesn’t decide to delete my whole directory or something. Why would your boss pay you when you don’t even do the work or posses the skills? Unironically the exact mentality stupid owners have wrt AI. But sure, coders can be replaced by a stochastic parrot that is more likely to give you advice on how to bathe with a toaster than accurately solve your problem in a way that doesn’t leave you massively exposed.

I never liked this stupid idea. The ‘stupid idea’ that people don’t want to be around Nazis? 🤔 If anti-Nazis start to hang out at a bar, does it become an anti-Nazi bar? Muh both sides. What about both Nazis & anti-Nazis: who wins? It seems you privilege the presence of Nazis in deciding the kind of bar it is with no chance of anyone else showing up to decide the kind of bar they make it with their mere presence. You privilege Nazis Do I really have to explain to you why Nazis coming into a bar is different than anti-nazis coming into a bar to normal people? If so, I’ll have to go break out the big box of Crayola for you.

thinks random offtopic mentions of all twitter users being bootlickers are destructive - yes All I can read is “thinks it’s pointless to remind people that Twitter is a Nazi bar” You can think it’s destructive all you want, but Twitter IS destructive, and the bootlickers who still frequent it are contributing to the destruction of our culture by fucking Nazis. thinks it’s also useless virtue signaling and just a giant circlejerk - yes Yet you’re virtue signalling in the opposite direction, effectively tacitly defending Twitter and it’s Nazi owner. Pardon me if I shit on anyone with your opinion, because the last thing we need is a pro-twitter circle jerk. There are already enough Nazis in the Internet, we don’t need to accidentally pill more people because we want to cry about shit in the Internet.

Just because they’re a data center doesn’t mean they’re suddenly immune to the regulations and processes a utility has to go through to build a generator.
