Day 15, Abisko Turist to Abisko, 3 km hiking In the morning my foot still hurt a lot whenever I put load on it. I hobbled over to the breakfast and ate, meeting some grrönabandare from Hukejaure again. After rushing through packing and checkout at too early o'clock, I sat around and chatted with them for a while and a sobo guy. He was considering giving up due to a knee, and so was I. I had two planned rest days in Abisko though, so I headed over to cheaper lodging.

Day 13, bit after Sälka to Miesákjárvi: 23 km hiking, 10 km packrafting Onwards along kungsleden, up a steeper and steeper slope and then over the high point and down the other side to just past the Alesjaure huts. There I could put my boat in and had a brisk tailwind down the lakes. Sometimes even a bit on the brisk side, but these lakes are nicely sectioned so the waves never got bad. Tented on a private beach, the bath was chilly though. #hiking #GrönaBandet

Day 12, Hukejaure to a bit after Sälka, 25 km hiking Started out in rain gear but quickly packed that away when there was just occasional drizzle. The first part of the day was hiking among small irregular features, before coming into a more dedined narrow valley, and then the long and wide Čeakčavággi with kungsleden. Did some supplementary shopping at the Sälka hut, and then continued on for a few more km before rain started and I pitched the tent. #hiking #GrönaBandet

Day 11, Sitasjaure - Hukejaure 20 km hiking Hiked up to the next cabin, first over big features with long inclines or mostly flat, but when nearing the cabin rocky ridges got more common. Wet and slippery in the rain, I fell on a board and snapped one walking pole. Then I got overtaken by two other green ribonners, one of them had hiked all the way from Ritsem that day. Met a sobo one at the cabin, which led to lots of chatting over dinner, after a refreshing bath in the lake. #GrönaBandet

Taking two rest days in Abisko, Torneträsk looks to get reasonable wind on mon+tues. Also, something is wrong with a foot. I hope it clears up with some rest, today's pain would be not possible to walk onwards on. Will work on my posting backlog!

Day 10, Ritsem - Sitasjaure: 17 km hiking, 4 km packrafting The weather also objected to plan B, which was to paddle to the west end of Akkajaure and go over to Nordkalottleden and pick up the original plan there. So plan C it is: Hike up Sitasjaure-Hukejaure-Kungsleden to Abisko.

The first day is road walking, but I got a little bit of a break from that in a lake along the road. #hiking #grönabandet

Day 9, Kutjaure - Ritsem, 16 km hike and 10 km packrafting In the morning there was still fresh snow on the upper parts of Gisuris and the other peaks, est. to about 1300 meters above sea level. My hike was in the other direction though, up along a slope and then through a high shallow valley over to Vájsáluokta. As I was preparing my packraft, an old local came in with his motor boat and we chatted a bit about the weather, and a shortcut with a 500m lift. In STF Ritsem 20 mins before closing.

Day 8, Låddejåhkå - Kutjaure, 18 km hiking More trekking along the Padjelanta trail. After a while there was a choice between the new and the old trail. The old trail has more elevation and greater views towards Sarek. In my case, the clouds were low, and I didn't fancy hiking extra elevation in mist. Spent the night in the Kutjaure cabin, and met my first sobo grönabandare. #hiking #GrönaBandet

Day 7, Stáloluokta - Låddejåhka, 24 km hiking Too windy to even hug the shore and paddle to Arasluokta, I hiked the trail the entire way to the Låddejåhka cabin. At lunch I discovered I had left my cup in Stáloluokta and decided to stay in cabins until I could buy a new one in Ritsem, my breakfast and evening meal require measuring. In the cabin I spoke a while with a swiss guy who was hiking Norge På Langs this year. He had started at Nordkapp and had about 2000 km left. #hiking

Day 6: Stáddájåhkå - Stáloluokta, 14 km hiking I felt worn from the long hike yesterday, so I just walked to Stáloluokta and stayed in the cabin there. Nice sauna tines were had! The weather and forecasts were less nice, so I decided to skip packrafting the great lakes and instead walk padjelantaleden out to Ritsem.

Day 5, Pieskehaure to Stáddájåhkjå, 29 km hiking Hiking up from the cabin up to Varvvek in a lot of mosquitoes but nice wide views. After a couple of simple stream crossings the ascent into Gáilavágge started, which I remembered being very challenging to come down last time. The cround here raises in grassy shelves with a couple of meters steep ascent between each. Luckily up in dry weather was easier than down on wet grass. Then a long valley until an excellent tent spot by the stream.

Day 2, Ikes-Bierre: 17 km hiking and 2 km packrafting. The day started out easy on a marked, if in mildly inconvenient terrain where there was some zigzag due to the terrain having weird little breaks and sudden minichasms. Then it went down into the trees, and due to western winds along the lake I choose to take a 4 km detour to paddle shorter and in lee from some islands. After the lake, the trail got worse, down into bushwhacking through dense birch. Finally up, I found a nice tent spot.

Day 4, rest day in Pieskehaure cabin, 0 km. My body was telling me that it wasn't used to these activities, and the forecast had rain on the schedule for half a day, so I stayed two nights and did not much beyond eating, reading, talking, and taking a sauna.

Looks like my starting pack weight is about 23 kg. A bit on the heavy side, but I'm only partially trusting the resupply options the first couple of weeks (Piskehaurestugan and the new kiosk in Stáloluokta) with regards to food selection. At least the weather forecasts look really good for paddling Ikesjaure, Mavasjaure, Pieskehaure, so I'll get some hours of progress without carrying anything.

I might have to take it slow at the start, especially if I want to take the western route, so that the trail between Ny-Sulitjelma and Sorjushytta has time for the snow to melt away. But starting early means that I have no stress at all in the beginning. Maybe I'll take the Piskehaure route and go exploring in some new areas, like taking Viejevágge north instead of the normal trail.

And now the trip to the starting point is booked, I'll start the remainder of the packrafthike on 2026-07-11, from the rest stop at Guodledisjávvre where I left it last year.
