@Daojoan@mastodon.social Abso-lutely. I’ve had this exact ideal for the past several years. You should make a product because you want to make the product not to just make money. People will say “A business’s only goal is to make money” as if it’s some sort of valid excuse? Even if it was completely true it does not detract from the fact that its not a good thing.

@futurebird@sauropods.win As someone who teaches I agree with this big time. In language learning a student may make a bunch of small errors but still demonstrate a grasp of the language at the level but would otherwise fail if grading from a rubrick. I feel like this holds students back at best and at least demoralizes students.

Living abroad im honestly very ashamed of my home country. I can say I don’t support any of the current actions the US is doing when its brought up in direct conversation but I feel outside of that the general perception is im a foreigner from a country that commits war crimes, doesn’t care about others and is full of greed. I just wish I could live my life and make people feel happy and comfortable.

I guess I feel sorta out of place but not in a way I expected.

I’ve been looking at ways I can get my Bachelors and still work abroad but the options really just aren’t that good. They are just fraught with restrictions that make them unviable. One program doesn’t want to put my wife on the visa even though the visa type fully supports that. Another one says absolutely no pets even though the country is pretty pet friendly. It is maddening. #tefl #expat #travel

I FINALLY found a spot to toss up my #hammock on my lunch break. I’ve been unable to find an adequate place since I got here #hammocklife

So one thing I have a bad habit of doing during much smaller interactions (passing in the hall or seeing out of the doorway) with students and even other teachers is that since there will be no meaningful conversation because everyone knows the simple normal greetings. I end up just making funny noises or vocal tics at them.

Noteable ones being: “Eeby Deeby”, “Bewoop”, and “Doot”

This can only have a positive impact on their they perceive foreigners to typically act I’m sure.
