Creating a "minefield" is when you've set up a situation where it's tricky to avoid doing something unethical. That's not what's happening here. Rather, Trump is unconstitutionally taking money from foreign businesses, which is illegal on its face--and the New York Times is tiptoeing through the minefield to avoid calling the president corrupt.
