I'm not saying you can blame the director of 47 Ronin for that Netflix show you liked not getting renewed, but the NY Times have an illuminating piece on how hiring director Carl Rinsch to make a high concept sci-fi show went very, very badly wrong.

The aesthetic fidelity to the thing they're parodying is remarkable. No notes.
One of those cases where the end card telling us it's a movie that will play in cinemas feels especially necessary.
Perhaps the trailer is doing the film a huge disservice, but this really looks like one of those lesser streaming superhero series.
Okay, the planet's a burning hellscape, Authoritarian awfulness is rising, and there is much to despair about.
But we still have this song Stevie Wonder recorded for Sesame Street and should therefore fight on.
For its first twenty minutes Exorcist: Believer plays rather well, suggesting an Appalachian take on Picnic at Hanging Rock. But its decline into schlocky awfulness begins thereafter and continues all the way up to its astonishingly stupid ending. Easily the worst film I've seen in a cinema this year.
Just thinking about the third act of John Woo’s Hardboiled where our hero stops the bad guys who‘ve been using that hospital as a base by calling in an air strike and murdering scores of innocent bystanders. I mean, it has been a while since I rewatched it, but that’s definitely how it ends, right?
